INSTEAD OF ICELAND…

Instead of Iceland…Try Cannon Beach, Oregon!! Now obviously Oregon doesn’t have any glaciers or volcanos 🤪, but it does have rugged beaches with stunning rock formations, similar to those of Iceland (especially Reynisfjara Beach!). If Iceland is on your bucket list, you are sure to love Cannon Beach!

Here is how I would spend a long weekend in Cannon Beach:

Day 1:

Morning: Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at Sleepy Monk Coffee Roasters.

Midday: Head to Haystack Rock, one of Oregon's most iconic landmarks. Spend some time exploring the tide pools and taking in the breathtaking views.

Lunch: Enjoy a seafood lunch at The Wayfarer Restaurant & Lounge, known for its delicious clam chowder and fresh seafood dishes.

Afternoon: Stroll through downtown Cannon Beach and browse the shops and art galleries.

Evening: Treat yourself to a dinner with ocean views at Bistro, a cozy restaurant offering seasonal, locally sourced cuisine. End the day with a relaxing walk on the beach and watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

Day 2:

Morning: Start your day with a hike in Ecola State Park. Afterward, enjoy breakfast at Sea Level Bakery + Coffee, known for its artisanal pastries and coffee.

Midday: Have a picnic lunch in the park or head back into town for lunch at Pelican Brewing Company, where you can enjoy craft beer and delicious pub fare.

Afternoon: Spend the afternoon exploring the nearby town of Seaside. Visit the Seaside Aquarium, walk along the Promenade, and indulge in some beachside treats like saltwater taffy.

Evening: Return to Cannon Beach for dinner at Castaways, a casual eatery offering a variety of seafood and American dishes. Consider trying their famous fish and chips or Dungeness crab cakes.

Day 3:

Morning: Enjoy a leisurely morning with breakfast at Driftwood Restaurant & Lounge, known for its hearty breakfast options and ocean views.

Midday: Rent bikes and explore the scenic beauty of Cannon Beach and its surrounding areas on two wheels.

Lunch: Stop for lunch at Public Coast Brewing Co., a family-friendly brewery serving up tasty burgers, sandwiches, and locally brewed beers.

Afternoon: Spend the afternoon at Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site, where you can relax on the sand, play beach games, or go for a swim.

Evening: Head back to Cannon Beach for dinner at Mo's Restaurant, a local favorite known for its clam chowder and seafood dishes. Be sure to try their famous Mo's Clam Chowder!

... Read moreOkay, so you've seen my amazing 3-day itinerary for Cannon Beach, Oregon, and maybe you're thinking, 'This sounds incredible, but when is the best time to actually go?' That's a super common question, and honestly, the answer really depends on what you're looking for in your trip! I've been lucky enough to visit this stunning Oregon Coast gem in different seasons, and each one offers a unique vibe. If you're dreaming of classic beach days – sunshine, building sandcastles, and exploring the tide pools around Haystack Rock without rain gear – then summer (June to August) is probably your best bet. Temperatures are mild, usually in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit, making it perfect for strolling the beach or even a quick dip in the Pacific if you're brave! However, this is also peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices for accommodations. If you plan to visit Cannon Beach, Oregon, during these months, I highly recommend booking your hotels and popular restaurant reservations well in advance. It gets busy, trust me! For those who prefer a more tranquil experience with still-pleasant weather, I absolutely love fall (September to October). This is often called the 'secret season' on the Oregon Coast. The summer crowds have thinned out, but the weather often remains surprisingly mild and sunny, with fewer rainy days than winter. The sunsets are absolutely breathtaking, and it's a fantastic time for long walks on the beach. You might even catch the beginning of the dramatic storm-watching season towards late fall, which is an experience in itself! Now, if you're like me and appreciate dramatic scenery and a cozy atmosphere, then winter (November to February) in Cannon Beach, Oregon, is surprisingly magical. Yes, it's colder and definitely wetter, but the storms that roll in off the Pacific are incredibly powerful and beautiful to witness from the warmth of a cafe or your hotel room. This is prime season for storm watching and also a great time for whale watching – gray whales migrate past the coast, and you can often spot them from viewpoints like Ecola State Park. Plus, prices are generally lower, and you'll often have stretches of the beach almost to yourself. Just pack your waterproofs and plenty of layers! Finally, spring (March to May) offers a lovely transition. The weather starts to brighten up, wildflowers begin to bloom in the surrounding parks, and migratory birds return. Whale watching opportunities continue into spring, and you'll find fewer crowds than in summer but more active options than in winter. It's a bit of a mixed bag weather-wise – you could get glorious sunshine or a classic Oregon drizzle – but it’s a wonderful time to experience the coast coming back to life. So, when is the best time? If your priority is warm weather and lively vibes, go in summer. If you crave peace and quiet with good weather, aim for early fall. For dramatic nature and solitude, winter is your season. And for a blend of emerging nature and fewer crowds, spring is ideal. No matter when you choose to visit Cannon Beach, Oregon, it's truly a destination that offers something special year-round!
