Catalase’s job is to break down hydrogen peroxide, a compound that can bleach your hair from the inside out if allowed to accumulate. When catalase levels drop, due to nutrient deficiencies, hydrogen peroxide builds up and causes your hair to lose its natural pigment. The four key nutrients that significantly affect this process are copper, vitamin B12, iron, and vitamin D. Copper is essential because it helps create melanin, the pigment responsible for your hair color. Vitamin B12 supports the cells that produce melanin, ensuring they function properly. Iron is crucial as it delivers oxygen to the stem cells in hair follicles, allowing healthy hair growth. Finally, vitamin D protects these colored stem cells from damage, maintaining hair pigmentation. From personal experience, addressing these nutrient deficiencies can sometimes lead to noticeable improvements in hair health.
