Duck house progress 🏡

Just gave the ducks’ future home a little glow-up! 🌿🦆

We mowed the grass nice and short, got some fence line donated (thank you!), and added a bright orange “LAKE” sign so our little crew knows exactly where to swim when they move in.

They’re still tiny fluffballs right now, so they’re not quite ready for the big move… but their house is looking ready for them! Can’t wait to watch them explore. 🧡

One of the key steps I found essential was maintaining freshly mowed grass around the duck house—it not only looks tidy but also helps prevent pests and gives the ducks a soft place to roam. Adding a designated swimming area marked by a bright 'LAKE' sign was both fun and practical. Ducks are naturally drawn to water, so ensuring they know exactly where to swim makes their transition smoother and encourages healthy activity. I also learned that receiving donated materials like fencing can be a huge help for budget-friendly homesteading projects, so don’t hesitate to reach out to your community. Because the ducks are still tiny fluffballs, creating a safe and enclosed space is crucial to protect them from predators while they grow. Watching them explore and interact with their new surroundings is one of the most satisfying parts of raising backyard ducks. If you’re planning your own duck house, remember to regularly check and maintain the fencing and freshen the bedding inside the coop. Seasonal changes can affect your setup, so staying flexible and attentive allows your ducks to stay comfortable year-round. Homesteading is a journey full of learning, and sharing these moments with your feathered friends makes it all the more special.
