You Don’t Understand (But I’m Just Trying)

Some days I wake already tired,

Running toward a line that moves,

Chasing dreams through shifting fog,

While carrying more than I can prove.

I’m just trying

To show up whole,

To carry light in hands worn thin,

To heal in silence, walk in grace,

And still, find the strength to begin again.

It doesn’t seem like it’s enough,

But I’m the one who loses sleep.

My mind is a storm of plans and fears,

My heart is a secret I must keep.

You see the surface, polished neat,

But never how I hide the cracks,

How much it takes to breathe, to smile,

To keep the weight off of my back.

I know you speak from love, I do

The questions, words, the watchful eyes.

But love, at times, must also trust,

And let my spirit freely rise.

No need for praise or standing ovations,

No rescue, even when I fall

Just space to try, to learn, to grow,

And grace when I can’t have it all.

So please, before you cast your doubt,

Before you say I’m not enough

Know I’m out here, heart wide open,

Trying, even when it’s tough.

Trying, even when I’m breaking.

Trying, even when it’s not seen.

Trying, even when misunderstood

Still chasing some quiet, gentle dream.

Many individuals face silent battles, revealing only polished surfaces while hiding cracks beneath. This poem encapsulates the everyday struggles of maintaining a brave face while grappling with inner turmoil. It serves as a reminder that everyone, at times, feels unseen or misunderstood. In our pursuit of dreams, the journey can feel lonely and exhausting. Mental health, particularly anxiety and depression, can impact our ability to connect with others. Engaging in open conversations about our emotional struggles can be transformative, fostering a support system that allows for healing and growth. It's crucial to surround ourselves with those who appreciate our efforts and offer space to express our truths. Furthermore, embracing vulnerability can lead to deeper connections. As we reveal our struggles, we invite others to share theirs, breaking down the barriers of loneliness and providing mutual support. This reciprocity is essential in building trust and nurturing relationships that accept us for who we are, flaws and all. Ultimately, this poem encourages readers to value their journey, regardless of how it appears to others. Embrace the process of trying, learning, and growing, and find solace in knowing that it's okay to ask for grace, even when facing difficulties. Life is not always straightforward, but it's in the moments of honesty and resilience where true beauty lies.
