How would you respond??

What would you say to that? Have you ever had that asked by your own family, a MIL, or your significant other? I’m not thinking about having kids right now, especially with the current economy and honestly I’m not sure if I would ever want them 🤷🏻‍♀️

I like my life the way it is. Call me selfish but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m perfectly content.

... Read moreIt's quite common to face pressure from family members or in-laws, like a mother-in-law repeatedly asking about plans for children. This can be an uncomfortable topic, especially when you haven't decided or simply prefer not to have kids at this stage — or ever. Many people share similar feelings of contentment with their lives the way they are, valuing personal freedom and not wanting to conform to societal or familial expectations. When responding to such questions, it’s helpful to be honest and clear about your feelings. For example, expressing that you’re currently not thinking about having children due to economic reasons or personal choice can help set boundaries. You don’t owe anyone an explanation beyond what you’re comfortable sharing. Saying things like, “I appreciate your concern, but I’m happy with where I am right now,” or “I’m still figuring things out, and I hope you can respect that,” can convey your stance respectfully. Understanding that family and in-laws may ask repeatedly because of their own expectations or societal norms can also help you approach the situation with empathy without feeling pressured. Ultimately, your life choices are yours to make. It’s okay to prioritize your happiness, well-being, and financial stability. Being 'selfish' isn’t negative when it means taking care of yourself and living authentically. Sharing your feelings openly can foster better understanding and reduce tensions over time. Remember that many people today are reevaluating traditional timelines and expectations about family and children. Whether it’s due to economic challenges, personal goals, or simply contentment in one’s current life, choosing not to have children or delay that decision is a valid and respected choice. Support networks, online communities, and forums can also offer helpful perspectives and advice if you need more ideas on managing these conversations.
