A Taste of Tradition: Celebrating Chinese New Year

As we welcome the Year of the Sneak🐍, I’m sharing some of the special dishes and decorations that make this time of year so meaningful to me. 🍊🧧

1.Pineapple fried rice with shrimp means wealth flowing in abundantly.

2.Hongshao Pork means prosperous and thriving.

4.Lettuce means grow wealth.

5. Soy sauce chicken: No chicken, no feast. Chicken is a symbol of unity, prosperity, and good fortune.

I’m so grateful to share a little piece of my culture with you all and wish you all a year filled with prosperity, joy, and good health! 🌟🎉

... Read moreChinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is a time rich in traditions and cultural significance. It lasts for 15 days, starting from the new moon between January 21 and February 20. Each dish served during this celebration is steeped in symbolism. For instance, the pineapple is associated with wealth because the Chinese word for pineapple (菠萝) sounds like 'prosperity arrives'. Similarly, dishes like dumplings and fish are often served to represent wealth and abundance. Decorating homes with red lanterns and couplets is believed to bring good luck and happiness. The practice of exchanging red envelopes, known as 'hongbao', filled with money is also a significant tradition that conveys wishes of prosperity for the coming year. Participating in these rich cultural customs not only fosters a sense of community but also ensures that traditions are passed down through generations. The Year of the Sneak emphasizes these values while bringing freshness to the festivities, reminding everyone to embrace the changes that come with the new year and to cherish family and friends during this joyous time.
