Home Habits That Help Me Reduce Waste
Over time, I’ve picked up a few habits at home that help cut down on waste without much effort.
Here are some of my go-to’s:
♻️ Plastic grocery bags – Even though I bring my own bags, sometimes I buy more than expected and end up with plastic ones. I keep and reuse them for kitchen scraps or bathroom trash bins.
🕯️ Candle warmers instead of burning candles – The scent lasts longer, no flame, and I use up every bit of wax. Win-win.
🧼 Refills for the win – I refill our hand soap, dish soap, car hand sanitizer, and all-purpose spray. Less plastic waste, and it’s kinda satisfying.
🍽️ No paper plates or plastic utensils – Just sticking with regular dishes, even for quick meals. Not a big deal once you get used to it.
🛍️ Grocery bags live in my car – Makes it easier to remember, and I feel better not taking new bags each time.
🥦 Buy only enough food for the week – I’m less likely to throw food out, and it keeps my fridge under control.
What’s one small thing you’ve done at home to reduce waste? I love learning what’s working for others too! ♻️✨

Adopting eco-friendly habits at home is essential for reducing waste and promoting sustainability. A significant step is maintaining the practice of reusing plastic grocery bags. By converting them into kitchen compost bags or trash can liners, you’re not just saving the environment but also making use of resources already at hand. Candle warmers serve as an excellent alternative to traditional candles. They allow you to maximize the use of the wax, providing fragrance without combustion. This method not only cuts down on waste but extends the life of your scented products. The satisfaction of completely utilizing a product is rewarding and beneficial for the planet. Using refillable products is another effective strategy. By refilling hand soap, dish soap, or all-purpose cleaners, you reduce plastic waste significantly. Not only does this help in conserving resources, but it often proves more economical in the long run. Eliminating paper plates and plastic utensils from your dining routine may seem challenging initially, but this minor lifestyle adjustment fosters a habit of using durable dishware instead. Opting for reusable ceramics can enhance your home aesthetic while minimizing trash. Remembering to keep reusable grocery bags in your car can dramatically improve your shopping habits. Whenever you go grocery shopping, having a reminder in your vehicle prevents unnecessary plastic bag usage. Buying fresh produce weekly encourages mindful consumption. It helps to monitor what you purchase and prevents food waste, allowing for healthier eating habits while saving money. Lastly, engaging with a community focused on sustainable living can provide new ideas and inspiration. It's beneficial to share tips and experiences that help streamline these eco-friendly practices into everyday routines.
