2 Easy Hacks for a Fresh-Smelling Vacuum
I have a vacuum with odor neutralizer, but sometimes it’s hard to notice if it’s time to change it. Then, my vacuum has my dog’s smell.
I tried these two simple hacks before I get new odor neutralizer replacement. They make such a difference:
1. Essential oil cotton ball
- Put a few drops essential oil onto the cotton ball and put it into the dust compartment. Vacuum like usual. I like fresh and clean lemon scent.
2. Dyer sheet
- Put a piece of dyer sheet in the dust compartment. It helps mask any lingering odors and releases clean laundry scent when vacuuming.
Now, my vacuum feels refreshing. If your vacuum has pets smell, give it a try!!
You know that stale, slightly dusty smell that sometimes comes from your vacuum, especially if you have pets? I used to think it was just part of owning a vacuum, but it turns out there are simple, effective ways to keep it smelling fresh! My dog, bless his heart, leaves a lot of love (and dander) behind, and even with built-in odor neutralizers, my vacuum would sometimes just... reek. It wasn't just the dander; think about all the invisible bits of food, dust mites, and even moisture that can get trapped inside, creating a less-than-pleasant aroma every time you clean. That's why the essential oil cotton ball trick became my absolute favorite for battling those smells. I learned that just a few drops of a good quality essential oil, like lemon (my go-to for that crisp, clean scent!), invigorating peppermint, calming lavender for relaxation, or even eucalyptus for a strong, fresh blast, can make all the difference. You simply tuck it into the dust compartment, ideally near the filter if possible (like in my Shark vacuum), and as the air flows through during vacuuming, it diffuses a lovely aroma throughout your home. I usually swap mine out once a week or every few vacuums, depending on how much I'm using it and if I want to change up the scent. A quick note on essential oils: if you have pets, always research which oils are safe for them, or stick to generally pet-friendly ones like lavender in small amounts, or consult your vet. Another simple one I swear by is the dryer sheet hack. I personally love the 'Outdoor Fresh' scent from Bounce dryer sheets – it just makes everything feel cleaner and brighter. Tearing one in half and placing it directly into the dust compartment does wonders. It not only helps mask existing odors but also releases a subtle, clean laundry smell as you vacuum. It's an instant refresh, making your cleaning routine feel much more pleasant! But wait, there's more to keeping your vacuum truly fresh than just these quick tricks! I've learned that regularly emptying the dust compartment is absolutely crucial. Don't let it get too full, as a packed compartment can restrict airflow and intensify odors. And those filters? They're often overlooked heroes! I make sure to clean or replace my vacuum's filters according to the manufacturer's instructions. A clogged or dirty filter not only makes your vacuum less efficient but also becomes a breeding ground for trapped odors. Sometimes, I even give the inside of the dust compartment a quick wipe down with a damp cloth (and let it dry completely before reassembling!) to remove any caked-on grime. For a really deep clean, I occasionally check the hose for any blockages and meticulously clean the brush roll – you'd be amazed what gets tangled in there, from hair to thread, all contributing to bad smells. These simple habits, combined with my essential oil cotton ball and dryer sheet hacks, have completely transformed my vacuuming experience. No more doggy smells lingering after I clean! Give these a try, and you'll love how fresh your home smells.
