The Hidden Costs of Owning A Home
When we bought our home, I thought once we closed and moved in, the hardest part was behind us.
But what really caught me off guard were all the little things that came after. All kind of costs we didn’t know it would add on us.
It wasn’t the big projects, but the slow trickle of small ones: fixing the water heater (twice), calling someone for AC repairs, buying tools just to handle basic maintenance. Things like installing gutters I didn’t think about.
If I could go back, I’d definitely research more for those quiet, behind-the-scenes costs. The parts of keeping a home running. Because those are the things that show up when you least expect them. We never thought the AC and water heater would broke down twice because they were brand new. We didn’t know we needed to clean them regularly to avoid these costs.
Still, every time something breaks and we figure it out, I feel a tiny bit prouder.
It’s stressful, yes, but also kind of special like we’re slowly learning what it means to care for our home, not just live in it. 🥰
