You don't need a gourmet kitchen right away, but these are crucial: Basic Cookware: One frying pan, one saucepan, and a baking sheet. You can expand later! Dishes & Utensils: A set for 2-4 people (plates, bowls, forks, spoons, knives). Don't forget a few mugs! Food Storage: Reusable containers are lifesavers for leftovers. Cleaning Supplies: Dish soap, sponges, paper towels, and a trash can. Small Appliances: A coffee maker (if you drink coffee) and a toaster are usually good starting points. Bedroom Essentials: Your sanctuary! Focus on comfort and practicality. Bed Frame & Mattress: This is a big one, so invest wisely. Bedding: Sheets, pillows, and a comforter. Having two sets of sheets is super convenient for laundry day. Storage: A dresser or clothes rack if your closet isn't huge. Under-bed storage bins are amazing! Window Coverings: Blinds or curtains for privacy and light control. Bathroom Necessities: Keep it clean and functional. Towels: Bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths. Shower Curtain: Don't forget the liner! Toiletries: Your usual shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste. Cleaning Supplies: Toilet brush, toilet cleaner, bathroom spray. Trash Can: A small one is perfect. Living Room & General Apartment Needs: Seating: A couch or a comfy armchair. Start small if you're on a budget. Lighting: Lamps are essential, especially if your apartment has limited overhead lighting. Basic Tools: A small toolkit (hammer, screwdriver, pliers) for assembly and minor repairs. Cleaning: A vacuum or broom, mop, and general surface cleaner. When you're trying to figure out what do you need to furnish an apartment without overspending, remember that not everything has to be new or bought all at once. Check out secondhand stores, online marketplaces, or even ask friends and family if they have items they're looking to get rid of. I found some great deals that way! Also, prioritize. What do you absolutely need to function daily, and what can wait? For instance, I delayed buying a fancy TV stand and used a sturdy box for a while.
