Simple Christmas tradition

In our family, we celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas. Children leave their shoes out & St Nick (🙋‍♀️) leaves small treats and toys in them. Chocolate gold coins in the shoes are a must. This was always one of my favorite parts of Christmas as a kid! My mom did this for me until I moved out in my early 20s 😂.

... Read moreThe tradition of celebrating St. Nicholas by leaving shoes out for small treats is a heartwarming custom that has been passed down through generations. It typically occurs on the eve of December 6th, the feast day of St. Nicholas, known as the patron saint of children. This practice encourages a sense of wonder and excitement among kids and adds a special touch to the Christmas season. Chocolate gold coins are a classic staple for this tradition, symbolizing the generosity associated with St. Nicholas. These coins often come wrapped in shiny foil, making them even more enticing for children. Other popular treats include small toys, candies like the Melting Penguin chocolate filled with marshmallows, as noted on packaging from seasonal candies, and sometimes handwritten notes or small gifts of personal significance. Families who keep this tradition find it fosters togetherness and nostalgia, often sparking stories of how one's own childhood experiences with St. Nicholas shaped their holiday celebrations. The act of setting out shoes—whether boots, slippers, or dress shoes—adds an element of charm and anticipation to the Christmas preparations. Incorporating such meaningful customs not only honors heritage but also creates joyful, memorable moments year after year. This easy-to-implement celebration can be adapted to various family sizes and schedules, making it accessible regardless of location or lifestyle. For anyone looking to enrich their holiday season, embracing the feast of St. Nicholas is a wonderful way to connect with past traditions while delighting children and adults alike. The excitement of waking up to find surprises in shoes is a simple yet magical part of Christmas that continues to inspire warmth and festive spirit worldwide.

This is so sweet! My parents used to put a little something in my shoes too, but never as elaborate as this. So many good memories!
