need a break from the winter blues?
Meet Mrs. Nash's Ashes by Sarah Adler
- Road trip
- One bed
- Sweet & Spicy
- Two different love stories (one in present day, one in the 1940s)
- "Grumpy Mc Grumpersome."
What's there not to like?
It's . . . spicy? I guess? It's open door, but the door is only open a few times, you know? It's enough to make you blush, for sure, but also giggle a LOT. I never know what to say when there are certain things in a book. Basically, it's spicy in the way I'll read, though, my characters need to have some sort of a relationship first, you know?
This was sweet, funny, surprisingly and absolutely heartwarming. Exactly what I needed!
I also discovered this is Sarah Adler's debut, and I'm an even bigger fan. Blown away. Wow, wow, wow.

Okay, so you've seen the hype around 'Mrs. Nash's Ashes' by Sarah Adler, and let me tell you, it's absolutely deserved! If you're anything like me, stuck in the depths of winter or just needing a mental escape, this book is your golden ticket. I picked it up on a whim, drawn in by the promise of a beach scene on the cover and that little 'best Summery read' tag I saw, and it delivered way beyond my expectations. What truly sets this book apart is how brilliantly it handles the dual timelines. You're not just getting one heartwarming romance, but *two*! Following the journey in present day, alongside the unfolding love story from the 1940s, adds such a rich layer of depth and intrigue. It’s like getting a two-for-one deal on emotional investment. I found myself completely captivated by both narratives, eager to see how they would connect and resolve. The historical aspect was surprisingly engaging, giving the story a timeless feel that really stuck with me. And let's talk about the tropes, because Sarah Adler absolutely nails them. The 'road trip' element isn't just a backdrop; it's central to the character development and the slow-burn romance. Watching the characters navigate challenges and grow closer, mile by mile, felt incredibly authentic. And yes, the 'one bed' trope? Chef's kiss! It's handled with just the right amount of awkward tension and simmering chemistry that makes your heart flutter. It’s not overdone, but when it happens, it makes perfect sense for the story. Then there's the spice. The original review mentioned it's open door but not overly explicit, and I completely agree. It's enough to make you blush and feel the heat, but it never overshadows the emotional connection. It’s mature, consensual, and totally adds to the genuine chemistry between the characters. For those who enjoy a bit of steam without it being the sole focus, this is your jam. It's definitely in the 'sweet & spicy' category, leaning more into the sweet with well-placed moments of heat. The character development, especially for our 'Grumpy Mc Grumpersome,' is fantastic. You see them slowly open up and reveal their vulnerabilities, which is always a joy to read. It's that classic grumpy/sunshine dynamic done right, making you root for them every step of the way. Knowing this is Sarah Adler's debut novel honestly blew me away. Her writing is so polished, witty, and emotionally resonant, it feels like she's been doing this for years. It makes me incredibly excited for whatever she writes next! If you're looking for a book that promises laughter, a few happy tears, and a genuinely heartwarming story that transports you to a brighter, sunnier place, 'Mrs. Nash's Ashes' is the one. It truly was the best summery escape I could have asked for, proving that a good book can be a mini-vacation in itself.
