more fairy good book recs! ✨ 📚
hello my fairy friends and pixie pals!
i hope you're having a lovely, sparkling summer full of faith, trust, and pixie dust.
it's time for everyone's favorite series: Book Recs Based on Your Favorite Fairies!
🌹 Rosetta
- Floriography by Jessica Roux
An illustrated guide that delves into the meaning (and the history behind it) of different flowers?? Oh, she would LOVE this.
- Dumplin by Julie Murphy
A sweet, southern story, with happy ending. What more could Rosetta want?
- A Reverie of Roses
This sapphic romance novella is short, sweet, and cozy! I think Rosetta would love curling up with this book on a rainy day.
- A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft
I've heard mixed reviews from readers when it comes to this book, but I like to think that, as sappy and romantic as Rosetta is, she would fall head over heals for this sweet prince and his secret greenhouse. (I personally thought it was a fun romantasy)
- Rose of Versailles Vol 1 by Riyoko Ikeda
I think Rosetta would LOVE Marie Antoinette and would find this manga series gorgeous, heart-wrenching, and romantic
☀️ Iridessa
- All Along You Were Blooming
by Morgan Harper Nichols
Yes, I know she technically is not responsible for tending flowers, but you see in the movies and books how she loves her garden fairy friends. Iridessa is shown directing the sunlight needed for photosynthesis toward Rosetta's garden. I think she would enjoy the poetry and encouragement in this little book.
- Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
We are shown in the films and books that Iridessa, while friendly, brave, and curious, is also a worrier. I think she would connect with Chloe and get some good laughs out of this sweet story. I think she'd enjoy
- The Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Oh, you KNOW Iridessa would be all over the world building in this book. She'd figure out which power is closest to her talent (she would be a Lighter, of course, but she would wonder if some Light Fairies are Burners) and immediately start "sorting," her friends.
- The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
While I think Iridessa might pick this up for the title alone, she would continue to read this for the meat of the story.
- His Face is the Sun by Michelle Jabes Corpora
Again, she'd definitely grab this book after seeing the title. But! I think it would scratch the itch that finishing the Children of Blood and Bone had left behind. Egyptian mythology, a rebellion, prophecy, intrigue!
💧 Rani
- Small Bodies of Water
by Nina Mingya Powles
This collection of nature writing and personal essays covers is written in beautiful prose. Rani would love reading about "bodies of water that separate and connect us, as well as how the nature around us, wherever we are in the world, can make us feel at home."
- The Sirens by Emilia Hart
You know Rani and her relationship with mermaids. I think she'd LOVE this one!
- The Deep by Rivers Solomon
This 166 page novella about the water dwelling descendants of enslaved pregnant women who were thrown overboard during the Transatlantic Slave Trade is HEAVY. I think Rani would read it, cover to cover, in one sitting, hugging it to her chest as her tears fell.
- How To Read Water by Tristan Gooley
While I'm sure Rani would already be able to do certain things like, decode the colors of ponds, forecast the weather, spot dangerous water in the dark, and decipher wave patterns on beaches, I think she would recommend this little guide book to her friends.
- Written in the Water by Tara Roberts
I think Rani would be intrigued by the concept of underwater archaeology and would connect emotionally, ragefully, to the millions of souls that suffered and died at the hands of the Transatlantic Slave Trade
Stay tuned for part three, coming up in a few weeks. In the meantime, I have a couple more book related posts coming down the pipeline for y'all 🩷
