... Read moreDuring my time in Bangkok, I became acutely aware of how serious the rabies outbreak really is, especially after hearing about a stray dog testing positive and multiple people getting bitten. Rabies doesn’t spread through blood but by hiding in nerve cells, making early vaccination critical. The symptoms—confusion, paralysis, and hydrophobia (fear of water)—are truly terrifying. One key takeaway is the importance of immediate action if bitten by any animal, particularly stray dogs or cats. Clean the wound thoroughly with soap and water and seek medical help without delay. Authorities have implemented a 30-day ban on the movement of dogs, cats, and other mammals in affected areas to curb the spread. If you’re in or visiting Bangkok, avoid contact with stray animals entirely. Also, keep an eye on your pets and ensure they are vaccinated. Prevention is always better than cure with this virus. Being informed and cautious can save lives—not just yours, but the animals’ as well.
