Physical Media Haul
In the last couple of months, I’ve unpaused my physical media and have been expanding my collection again. I’m tired of increasing prices and feeling like I’m renting my life so to remedy that, I’m going back to my roots.
I’m curating my collection to movies and TV shows I watched and lived and seem to be bouncing from one subscription to the next. #physicalmediacollector #physicalmediahaul
Over the past few months, I've truly appreciated the tactile joy of rebuilding my physical media collection. Streaming services offer incredible convenience, but the constant rise in subscription fees and the temporary nature of digital libraries made me rethink my entertainment habits. Owning DVDs and Blu-rays brings a sense of ownership and permanence that streaming just can't match. Curating my collection has become a thoughtful process—I focus on movies and TV shows that have a personal connection or that I genuinely enjoy revisiting. This eliminates the feeling of endlessly flipping through content catalogs without commitment. Plus, physical collections allow me to avoid the frustration when favorite titles disappear due to licensing changes on streaming platforms. Another benefit I've noticed is how physical media encourages shared viewing experiences. Whether with friends or family, passing around discs and discussing favorite scenes feels more engaging than passively watching on screens. The thrill of finding rare or classic editions also adds an exciting treasure hunt aspect to building this collection. If you're considering a similar move, it helps to start small and prioritize titles that truly bring you joy. Also, consider investing in proper storage and shelving to keep your collection organized and easily accessible. Physical media isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about reclaiming control over your entertainment and creating a lasting connection to the stories you love.
