â¨Borderline Diariesâ¨
For the longest time, I misunderstood my own diagnosis. I genuinely thought âborderline personality disorderâ was just the new name for multiple personality disorder. Spoiler: itâs not. Thatâs Dissociative Identity Disorder â and learning the truth hit me like being dropped into a scene from Texas Chainsaw Massacre⌠no joke.
Outwardly? I looked fine. Inwardly? I was unraveling. I didnât know who I was â no stable sense of identity, just fragments. So in therapy, I confessed: âI donât get BPD. Iâve been living with it, but I donât understand it.â
And you know what my therapist did? She turned it into a DSM-5 game. We went through all 9 BPD traits. She didnât tell me how many were required for diagnosis â just had me check off the ones that hit home. Guess how many I checked? All. Nine. Out of nine. And the requirement for diagnosis? Just FIVE.
That moment was mind-blowing. For the first time, I didnât feel âcrazy.â I felt⌠seen. Like maybe this is why Iâve always felt âdifferent.â And if others check off 5 out of 9 and I check all 9 â then I know Iâm not alone. There are others like me. And that means: I have a place. A community. An identity. This is me. This is us. đ¤
