Fried tofu! 🥰
Fried tofu is one of my favorite easy-to-make dishes that can fit into any meal, whether as a snack or part of a main course. The key to perfect fried tofu is selecting the right type—firm or extra-firm tofu works best because it holds its shape well when frying. Before frying, pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture makes a huge difference in getting that crispy texture everyone loves. I usually wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 20 minutes. Using a good amount of oil heated to the right temperature is essential. Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding the tofu; otherwise, it can become soggy. I prefer using neutral oils with a high smoke point, like canola or peanut oil. For seasoning, you can keep it simple with just salt and pepper or add a splash of soy sauce or your favorite marinade before frying to infuse more flavor. Also, tossing fried tofu cubes in a bit of cornstarch before frying helps create an extra crispy crust. I noticed from the packaging labels that the tofu I use is free from preservatives and added unnecessary ingredients, ensuring a healthier option. This aligns with my preference for clean eating and makes fried tofu a guilt-free treat. Try pairing fried tofu with fresh tomatoes or a tangy dipping sauce for contrast and added freshness. This simple dish can be adapted in many ways, making it a versatile and nutritious addition to your cooking repertoire.
