Lil Farm Trip

After my recent trip to Conklin Farm U-Pick, I wanted to share some extra tips for anyone planning their own fall adventure there or to any U-Pick farm! It’s such a classic autumn activity, and with a little preparation, you can really make the most of it. First off, for Conklin Farm U-Pick specifically, remember it's primarily a pumpkin patch, so go in with that expectation. While they do have those thoughtful wheelbarrows for your pumpkin haul, don't forget to wear comfy shoes! You'll be walking around the fields, and it can get muddy or uneven. Also, layering up is always a good idea for fall weather – mornings can be chilly, but afternoons often warm up. Thinking about activities? The hayrides were definitely a highlight. It’s cool that they offer both a relaxed scenic ride and a haunted one for those who like a bit of a scare! If you're bringing kids, definitely check out the regular one. For snacks, I enjoyed the cold apple cider and kettle corn, but it's always smart to pack some water, especially if you're spending a few hours. Now, a heads-up about the animal interaction: they have goats you can feed! It’s a super cute experience, and picking sunflowers for them nearby adds a fun twist. However, like I mentioned, there were quite a few bees around, especially near the sunflower fields. If you’re sensitive to bees, just be aware and perhaps wear long sleeves or use a natural repellent. It’s part of being outdoors on a farm, but it’s good to be prepared. Regarding the pumpkins and gourds, take your time to wander through the fields. It's not just about finding the biggest pumpkin; look for unique shapes, colors, and sizes that will make great fall decor. I saw so many beautiful varieties, perfect for carving or just displaying on your porch. Don't rush the picking process – it's part of the fun! And speaking of fun, don't forget your camera! Farms in the fall are incredibly picturesque. The vibrant colors of autumn combined with rustic barn settings and endless fields of pumpkins and gourds make for amazing photo opportunities. I loved the pictures I got, and they're such great memories of the day. Lastly, while Conklin Farm U-Pick might be on the smaller side, it offers a charming, authentic fall farm experience. It’s a great spot for a quick day trip if you're in the Montville area, especially if you're keen on pumpkin picking and classic hayrides. Just manage your expectations regarding a full petting zoo or extensive attractions, and you’ll have a wonderful time soaking in those fall vibes!
