Hey art lovers! I wanted to dive a bit deeper into the process behind my recent Selina Kyle/Catwoman watercolor. When I set out to create this piece, my goal was to capture not just her iconic look, but also that undeniable confidence and allure she embodies. For me, Catwoman has always represented a unique blend of strength, mystery, and a certain playful dominance – a 'soft femdom' energy that's captivating without being overtly aggressive. Choosing the right materials was key. I opted for koi watercolors because of their vibrant pigments and ease of blending, which allowed me to create that rich, vibrant orange background that contrasts beautifully with her black suit. The white gel pen was essential for adding those sharp highlights – think about the gleam on her goggles or the subtle sheen on her red lips. And for those crisp lines and details, especially around her cat ears and the contours of her face, the micron pen was perfect. I really enjoyed working on her profile, trying to convey her intense gaze as she looks upwards, as if contemplating her next move. I built up the colors in layers, starting with lighter washes for the skin tone and then gradually adding deeper tones for her suit and the background.
