Summer time with my favorite.
We always enjoy the sun shining. The past few months have been much enjoyed. Being present with him is the best. #summer☀️🌺
The first official day of summer always feels like a fresh start, doesn't it? After months of waiting, that first truly warm, sunny day just calls for outdoor adventures, especially with our furry best friends. I know for me, there's nothing quite like stepping out into a lush green field, feeling the sun on my face, and watching my dog bound through the tall grass, harness jingling as he explores. We spent hours just soaking up nature's embrace, smelling the fresh air, and simply being present. It’s those simple moments of pure joy and connection that I cherish most. Seeing him so happy and free, with not a care in the world, reminds me to slow down and appreciate the little things. But beyond just enjoying the moment, I've learned a few things over the years to make sure our first summer outings are perfect and safe. Keeping your dog hydrated is absolutely key – I always carry a portable water bottle and a collapsible bowl for him. Even if it doesn't feel scorching hot to me, dogs can overheat surprisingly quickly, especially when they're excited and running around. Offering water frequently, even if they don't seem thirsty, is a must. Another vital tip I swear by for those early summer days is checking the pavement temperature. On those first sunny days, asphalt and concrete can get deceptively hot, potentially burning their sensitive paw pads. I always do the 'seven-second rule': if I can't hold the back of my hand on the pavement for at least seven seconds comfortably, it's too hot for his paws. We then stick to cooler surfaces like the beautiful grassy areas we found, or shaded dirt trails. If we're out longer, I sometimes even bring paw balm or protective booties. After a good romp in the tall grass and through nature, it’s also a good idea to give your dog a quick brush-down and check for any hitchhikers. Ticks and burrs love to cling to fur, so a quick visual and tactile inspection helps keep them comfortable and healthy. It's just a small part of enjoying the outdoors responsibly. For us, the first day of summer often involves a long, leisurely walk in a new park we haven't explored, a visit to a dog-friendly beach if we're lucky enough to be near one, or even just some enthusiastic backyard playtime with a sprinkler or a splash pad. The goal is always to make it special, a true celebration of the sunny, longer days ahead. These shared experiences are what truly strengthen our bond. It’s not just about getting exercise; it’s about creating lasting memories, laughing at their silly antics, and feeling that incredible, unconditional love. The past few months have been much enjoyed, and being present with him truly is the best feeling in the world. What about you? How do you celebrate the first day of summer with your furry companion? I'd love to hear your favorite traditions, go-to spots, or any essential tips you have for making the most of these beautiful, long days with our beloved pets!
