Don't forget to toss a coin over your shoulder – it's said to guarantee a return trip to Rome, and who wouldn't want that? Just be mindful of your belongings, as it’s a popular spot for a reason. While iconic spots like the Colosseum and the Vatican are absolute must-sees that everyone should experience, remember to pre-book your tickets! It’s a game-changer for saving time. My last trip, we saved so much time by doing this, giving us more moments to simply enjoy the city rather than queuing. From the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica to the ancient ruins of Palatine Hill, each site tells an incredible story. Beyond that fantastic pasta making class and enjoying a delicious tiramisu with an Aperol Spritz, Rome's food scene is a dream. I highly recommend trying supplì, those crispy fried rice balls, perfect for a quick snack. And the coffee culture? Unbeatable. Grab an espresso at a bar like a local – it’s a quick, delicious experience. We also loved discovering a local trattoria away from the main squares for an authentic Roman meal; the cacio e pepe and carbonara were life-changing! Take a moment to step inside a random church; you’ll often find incredible art and serene beauty you never expected, with intricate ceilings and stunning details. You might find a hidden gem, like a local bakery or a quiet courtyard perfect for people-watching. Many of the most beautiful sights I saw were completely unplanned, like the way the light hit certain ancient structures. Getting around Rome is surprisingly easy. While the metro is good for longer distances, I honestly walked almost everywhere. It’s the best way to truly absorb the atmosphere and stumble upon those beautiful ancient ruins peeking out from everyday life. Rome truly captures your heart. It’s a city where every corner tells a story, and even if you go with a plan, be open to letting Rome surprise you.
