Murray State Canvas

Speaking of Murray State and 'Canvas,' I've noticed quite a few of you might also be searching for something a little different – the Murray State Canvas online learning platform! It's super common for new students, or even returning Racers, to have questions about accessing their courses and resources. So, while you're here getting inspired for your next art project, I wanted to quickly share some helpful tips on navigating the other important 'Canvas' at Murray State University. What is Murray State Canvas? Basically, Murray State Canvas is our primary online learning management system (LMS). It's powered by Instructure, so you might hear it referred to as 'Instructure Canvas' sometimes. This is where you'll find everything related to your classes: course materials, assignments, grades, announcements from your professors, and even communicate with classmates. It’s truly essential for academic success here at MSU! How to Log In to Murray State Canvas: Getting into your Canvas account is usually pretty straightforward. Here’s how I typically do it: Go to the Official Murray State Website: Start at murraystate.edu. I always recommend using the official site to avoid any phishing scams. Look for 'Current Students' or 'Academics': You’ll usually find a link to 'Canvas' or 'MyGate' (which then links to Canvas) under one of these sections. Sometimes there's a direct 'Canvas Login' button right on the homepage, especially during busy times like semester starts. Use Your MSU Credentials: You’ll be prompted to enter your Murray State University username and password. This is the same login you use for your Murray State email and other university systems. Make sure you have it handy! If you have trouble, there’s usually a 'Forgot Password' link, or you can contact the IT Help Desk. They’re super helpful for us Racers! Explore Your Dashboard: Once you’re in, you’ll see your Canvas dashboard with all your current courses. Each course is usually represented by a tile. Clicking on a tile will take you directly into that course's content. Tips for Using Canvas Effectively: Check Announcements Regularly: Professors often post crucial updates here, so make a habit of checking daily. Set Up Notifications: You can customize your Canvas notification settings to receive alerts via email or text for assignments, grades, or discussions. This has saved me from missing deadlines so many times! Utilize the Calendar: The Canvas calendar integrates all your assignment due dates from different courses, which is fantastic for managing your schedule. Mobile App: Murray State Canvas also has a mobile app (Instructure Canvas Student App) available for both iOS and Android. I find it really convenient for checking things on the go, especially when I'm not at my laptop. Just search for 'Canvas Student' in your app store and then select 'Murray State University' when you log in.
