... Read moreWhen it comes to college shopping, it's easy to get caught up in buying trendy or expensive items that may not truly serve your needs. For example, purchasing a new backpack every year may seem like a good idea, but having a durable, reliable backpack — like the North Face Borealis — can last for several college years without needing replacement. This saves not only money but also hassle. Stationary is another area where overspending can sneak in. Instead of buying fancy and costly pens, notebooks, and markers, focus on what actually helps you study and take notes effectively. Simple, affordable supplies often get the job done just as well. Regarding emergency kits, while it’s good to be prepared, an extensive kit with many items you may never use isn’t necessary. A basic pouch containing essentials like band-aids and pain relievers is practical and space-saving. Investing over $100 on graphing calculators is a common regret among students. In many classes, simple scientific calculators or less expensive graphing models are sufficient. Double-check your course requirements before splurging. Dorm decor helps personalize your space, but remember that college dorms have move-out requirements and limited space. Keep decorations minimal and functional to avoid clutter and additional moving challenges. Overall, the key advice is to prioritize durability, functionality, and necessity over trends or brand names. Being a savvy shopper and focusing on what truly enhances your college experience will spare you regret and financial strain. Sharing your own experiences and asking peers for recommendations can also provide valuable insights. What are some items you regret purchasing for college? Feel free to share and help others make informed choices!

Crazy about not being able to use the calculator. I got mine in high school since it was required and was allowed to use it at the 4 different colleges I took math classes at. Had that thing for 15 years then sold it for $60. It was definitely worth the cost.

I agree with all of this except for the calculator. I think it really depends on the size of school you go to. I go to a small private school and I'm allowed to use a graphing calculator for every class. So I would check with others first!
