🚶 Outing Record: Onigajo [World Heritage]

Onigajo Castle is a large rock wall created by earthquake uplift, weathering and wave erosion. In addition to being designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument, it is registered as a World Heritage Site as part of "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountains." There is a promenade for about 1 km on the rock wall, and you can enjoy countless large and small caves and strange rock wonders.
At the top of the mountain, there is a castle ruins from the Sengoku period, and a hiking course connecting with Kumano Kodo and Matsumoto Pass is maintained. From the observation deck called Oni no Miharashidai, you can see the Kumano Sea.
Many cherry blossoms are planted on the hiking course to the summit, and in spring, four kinds of cherry blossoms bloom one after another to delight tourists who visit for a long time.
私も夏の終わりに鬼ヶ城を訪れた経験があります。熊野市木本町にあるこの世界遺産は、自然の力が織りなす壮大な岩壁と海の絶景が印象的でした。遊歩道を歩くと大小様々な洞窟や奇岩が間近に感じられ、まるで自然の芸術作品の中にいるような感覚です。 ハイキングコースは初心者でも楽しめる程よい距離で、途中の鬼の見晴台から見渡す熊野灘の景色は格別。特に夏の終わりには空気が澄み、夕陽が海に沈む様子がとても美しかったです。また、山頂にある戦国時代の城跡も歴史好きにはたまらないスポット。散策するうちにその時代の息吹が感じられる気がしました。 さらに驚いたのは、春の季節には四種類の桜が長期間にわたって順々に咲き誇ること。訪れる時期によって違った美しさを楽しめるため、リピート必至の観光地です。歩きやすい靴とお弁当を持って、ぜひ自然と歴史を感じる鬼ヶ城の散策をおすすめします。熊野古道や松本峠にも繋がるコースなので、体力に自信がある方はさらに足を延ばしてみてください。
