September Reading Recap
Only three books this month but my reviews were a little all over the place.
Rules for Ghosting surprised me. I thought I was getting a cute 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ romance with a spooky element but I got so much more. I loved the characters and the details and importance of found and birth families. I highly recommend this one.
Grey Dog I really enjoyed until the last few chapters. I won’t spoil it but I think the ending felt rushed and a bit disjointed.
The Falcon and the Foe was a little too generic for me, but if you are looking for a mildly spicy cinnamon roll meets grump it is for you. I knew exactly what I was getting beginning to end.
This September reading recap highlights a personal journey through three distinct books, each offering something different to the reader. The standout title, "Rules for Ghosting," merges themes of found and birth families with a refreshing LGBTQ+ romance, incorporating a spooky element that deepens the emotional experience. This novel successfully blends romance and supernatural vibes, making it a recommended read for those who appreciate multi-layered storytelling. In contrast, "Grey Dog" captivated with its gripping narrative until the concluding chapters, where some readers found the ending rushed and somewhat disconnected. This reflects a common challenge in suspense or thriller genres, where maintaining pacing without sacrificing plot coherence is crucial. Despite this, the book provides a compelling reading experience. Lastly, "The Falcon and the Foe" serves as a sweet, light romance featuring classic character tropes like the 'cinnamon roll meets grump.' While it may feel predictable to some, its charm lies in its comfort and familiarity, making it a cozy choice for fans of gentle romantic dramas. For readers looking to expand their collection with LGBTQ+ themes, these titles offer a variety of storytelling styles, from the emotionally deep to the lighthearted. Incorporating books that explore found families and the nuances of identity helps foster empathy and inclusivity in literature. Engaging with such narratives can enhance one’s understanding of diverse experiences and promote a richer reading life.
