Spending a day out on the lake or cruising on a boat is one of my favorite summer activities! To make sure every trip is as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, I’ve perfected my packing list over the years. It’s all about being prepared for fun, sun, and everything in between. First things first: sun protection is non-negotiable. I always pack a good quality, broad-spectrum sunscreen and make sure to reapply it regularly, especially after swimming. A stylish yet functional hat, like a baseball cap or a wide-brimmed sun hat, is essential for keeping the sun off my face and protecting my scalp. And a pair of large, comfortable sunglasses isn't just for looking cool; they protect your eyes from the harsh glare reflecting off the water, making your day much more comfortable. Next up, hydration and snacks! My cooler is always packed to the brim. Beyond just plain water, I love bringing a variety of refreshing drinks like juices and sports drinks to keep everyone energized. For snacks, I often cut up a juicy orange melon – it’s super hydrating and delicious! Easy-to-eat items like sandwiches, fruit, and individual bags of chips are perfect for a lake day. Don't forget to pack enough for everyone, plus a little extra, because lake air always seems to make everyone extra hungry! When it comes to organizing everything, a sturdy bag is a game-changer. I rely on my colorful, sturdy bags (you know the kind!) because they're perfect for holding towels, a change of clothes, and all those other bits and bobs without getting soggy or sandy. Having a designated spot for everything means less rummaging around and more time relaxing. I usually pack a separate small bag for my electronics. Speaking of electronics, capturing those beautiful moments is a must! I always bring my phone or camera, but it goes straight into a waterproof pouch. This way, I can snap photos of the breathtaking scenery, maybe even a majestic heron if I’m lucky, or just capture candid shots of enjoying the day with friends and family, without worrying about splashes or accidental drops in the water. It’s peace of mind that lets me focus on making memories. Finally, a few comfort items make all the difference. Soft beach towels are a given, and a lightweight cover-up or an extra change of clothes is always a good idea for when it gets cooler or if you want to dry off before heading home. While not glamorous, a small first-aid kit with essentials like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers is always smart to have on hand for any minor scrapes or headaches. Being prepared ensures a smooth, fun-filled day for everyone!
