... Read moreLiving with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) often presents challenges related to fatigue and dizziness, making mobility a key concern. Based on my own experience, having the right wheelchair accessories is a game-changer not only for convenience but also for managing energy levels throughout the day. One of the most useful items I've found is a folding basket attached to the chair. This allows me to carry essentials like medication, snacks, or a water bottle without having to constantly ask for help or exert extra effort. Drink holders are another simple but effective aid, ensuring hydration is always within easy reach, which is crucial for managing POTS symptoms. Using bike gloves, such as the Firefly 2.5 gloves, improves grip and motion comfort when propelling the wheelchair manually, reducing strain on the hands and wrists. Combining this with tools like grabbers helps avoid unnecessary bending or reaching, which can drain precious energy reserves. Another lifesaver accessory for me has been the rain poncho. Weather changes can be tricky, especially when feeling unstable due to POTS-related dizziness. Having a poncho ready means I can stay dry and protected without the hassle of bulky umbrellas. Technology also plays a role. Attaching AirTags to key accessories or the wheelchair itself provides peace of mind by helping me keep track of my belongings, preventing panic or wasted energy trying to locate items. Lastly, portable ramps at frequently visited places allow for smoother transitions indoors and outdoors, reducing the risk of falls and conserving energy. All these wheelchair must-haves collectively enhance my sense of independence and make day-to-day life more manageable. For anyone living with POTS, investing in accessibility tools tailored to your specific needs can significantly improve your quality of life.
