📞 SSA Hold Time, Summer I Turned Pretty, & Orange Cat Therapy

Today’s self-care looked like rewatching The Summer I Turned Pretty, sitting on hold with Social Security, and letting my emotional support orange cat supervise the entire process.

Not exactly where I pictured myself at 26, but if I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that joy can exist alongside hard things.

The hold music was questionable. The cat cuddles were not. 🐈✨

From my own experience living with conditions like multiple sclerosis and POTS, I've found that integrating small moments of self-care can make a significant difference. Spending hours on hold with agencies like Social Security Administration can be draining, but having an emotional support animal nearby—especially an affectionate orange cat—provides a comforting distraction and emotional grounding. Rewatching a beloved series such as The Summer I Turned Pretty adds a layer of escapism and joy, creating positive emotional associations during tough waits. It’s important to recognize that chronic illness doesn’t preclude enjoying simple pleasures, even amidst challenging circumstances like dealing with disability benefits or managing unpredictable symptoms. Incorporating the companionship of pets has proven therapeutic; their presence can alleviate anxiety and loneliness, which are often heightened in those with chronic conditions. The unconditional love from a cat supervising my daily activities, including those long hold times, has been a surprisingly uplifting form of therapy. This balance—finding joy alongside the hardships—is a vital part of resilience. Sharing these experiences within communities like #ChronicallyIll and #DisabilityJourney allows support and understanding to flourish, encouraging others facing similar struggles to find their own blend of comfort and strength.
