Movies we watched this weekend *gore

Okay, so my weekend was officially dedicated to getting into the Halloween spirit, and let me tell you, these movies absolutely delivered! I was on the hunt for something with a good scare and, of course, a bit of gore, and I found some real gems to kick off the Fall Halloween Movie season. First up was Clown in a Cornfield. If you’re into classic slasher vibes with a modern twist, this one is for you. The sinister clown with an axe really sets the tone, and the cornfield setting adds such a creepy, isolated feel. It's got that small-town horror element where you're rooting for the protagonists while also just enjoying the chaotic mayhem. The gore is definitely present but often plays into the fun, over-the-top slasher style. It’s perfect for a Friday night watch when you want something thrilling but not overly complex. Next, I dove into The Home. This one felt a bit more intense, especially with that image of a syringe dripping into a human eye from its poster – yikes! It delves into a darker psychological space, combined with some unsettling body horror elements. It really made me think about what horrors can lurk behind closed doors, especially in places we’re supposed to feel safe. If you’re looking for something that might make you squirm and think a little deeper than just jump scares, this could be your pick. It’s got a more serious tone, but the payoff is worth it. Finally, I rounded out the weekend with Haunt. This movie is fantastic if you love the escape room or extreme haunted house subgenre. The idea that 'SOME MONSTERS ARE REAL' really comes to life as a group of friends enters a seemingly innocent haunted attraction, only to find themselves trapped in a deadly game. The masks are incredibly unsettling, and the film does a great job building suspense and delivering some truly gruesome moments. It’s a high-octane ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat, making it a perfect choice for a group watch with friends who also appreciate a good scare. Beyond just the movies, creating the right atmosphere for a cozy horror movie night scene is key for me. I love setting up with a bowl of popcorn, lighting some lit candles for that perfect eerie glow, and of course, having some carved pumpkins around to really lean into the festive mood. It just makes the whole experience so much more immersive and fun, especially when you're watching films like these that are meant to get your adrenaline pumping.
