Alphabet challenge
The A-Z Alphabet Challenge has been a huge buzz on BookTok, and for good reason! It’s not just a fun way to engage with the reading community; it's a fantastic motivator to explore books you might never pick up otherwise. I decided to dive in this year, and my reading journey has been incredibly rewarding, pushing me out of my comfort zone and introducing me to so many gems. If you're thinking about starting your own A-Z challenge, here's how I approached it. The basic premise is simple: read a book where the title or author's last name starts with each letter of the alphabet. Some people choose to do it based on the first word of the title, others are more flexible. I opted for flexibility, mostly focusing on the initial letter of the main title, but sometimes an author's surname was the perfect fit. I kept a simple list, ticking off letters as I went. Don't feel pressured to complete it in a strict timeframe; the joy is in the reading, not just the race! One of my biggest tips for tackling this challenge is to not get stuck on those trickier letters like 'Q,' 'X,' or 'Z.' Instead of waiting for the perfect book to magically appear, I actively sought out recommendations. BookTok itself is a goldmine for this, as are Goodreads lists and even simply browsing my local library's shelves. Sometimes, you find an author like A.L. Jackson, whose name starts with a letter you need, and you discover a whole new series! It’s all part of the adventure. Looking back at my progress, I'm pretty proud of the variety on my list. For 'H,' I remember diving into the suspenseful world of 'Hideaway,' which had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Finding books for 'E' was easier than expected; 'Endless Moon' was a beautiful, atmospheric read that transported me completely. And for 'S,' I had a few contenders, but both 'Shadows' and 'Switch' were fantastic choices, each offering a unique narrative that broadened my literary horizons. It’s amazing how a simple challenge can make you reach for books you wouldn't typically consider, leading to wonderful discoveries. While I didn't get to pick a book set in 'Utah' for my 'U' this time, I'm already planning for next year! The beauty of the A-Z challenge lies in its ability to expand your reading horizons. It literally forces you to diversify your reading list, introducing you to new genres, authors, and perspectives. It also gives a fantastic sense of accomplishment as you fill out your alphabet. Beyond that, it's a great conversation starter within the BookTok community. Sharing your progress, your struggles, and your favorite reads for each letter creates a wonderful connection with fellow book lovers. So, if you're looking for a fun, engaging way to boost your reading game, I highly recommend giving the BookTok A-Z Alphabet Challenge a try. Grab a notebook, start brainstorming, and get ready for a reading year filled with exciting new stories. Happy reading!
