Has anyone else tried the Elf Countour Wands? I was so so excited to give it a try as Elf has a ton of great products that a lot of people love! I went to Walmart the other day to try purchase one product but then i ended up purchasing a couple hehe. I got this contouring wand in the shade fair/light which we are reviewing.
Elf Cosmetics Halo Glow Contour Beauty Wand- $9
this contour wand comes in 5 shades, i picked the lightest one. The packaging is very much similar to the charlotte tilburry hollywood contour wand, which is very famous all over social media.
Application:
- I squeezed a small amount and started applying above my cheekbone, hairline, jawline and the sides of my nose.
- I grabbed my beauty blender and lightly damped it with water then I started to blend.
- As i started to blend, the pigment started to disappear.
Review- Overall, i would not repurchase this product. This had no pigment, as I started to blend the color disappeared however, I will be trying out the other shades close to my skin color and will do a review on them.
... Read moreOkay, so like many of you, I'm always on the hunt for those holy grail products that won't break the bank. Contouring has become such a staple in my routine – who doesn't love a little extra definition? It’s all about creating those shadows to sculpt your face, making your cheekbones pop, slimming your nose, or defining your jawline. When it's done right, contouring can really elevate your makeup look, giving you that chiseled effect we often see on social media. But honestly, it's not always about drastic changes; sometimes it's just about enhancing what you already have in a subtle, natural way.
After my experience with the Elf Halo Glow Contour Wand, where I noticed that frustrating 'no pigmentation after blending' issue, it got me thinking a lot about what makes a high-quality contour product, especially for those of us with fair skin. For lighter skin tones, finding the right shade is crucial – you need something that creates a shadow, not an obvious streak of muddy color. It should be cool-toned, not too warm or orange. And of course, the blendability is key! If it disappears or gets patchy, what's the point?
So, how can you make sure you're picking the right contour, and how do you even use it properly? Here are a few tips I've learned along my own makeup journey:
First, shade selection is everything. If you have fair skin like me, look for cool-toned, taupey shades. Avoid anything too warm or orange, as that can look unnatural. For deeper skin tones, richer, warmer browns can work beautifully. Always swatch a few shades on your jawline or neck area to see how they truly look against your skin before committing.
Next, application technique matters. Whether you're using a wand, a stick, or a powder, start with a small amount. You can always build up, but it's much harder to take away! For liquid or cream products like a wand, I usually dab a few dots where I want the contour, then blend immediately. A damp beauty sponge or a dense brush works wonders for seamless blending. Remember to blend upwards and outwards on your cheekbones, and slightly downwards on your jawline to create that shadow effect. For the nose, I like to use a small, fluffy brush for precision.
And finally, don't be afraid to experiment with different formulas! If a liquid wand isn't giving you the payoff you desire, perhaps a powder contour would be better, especially if you have oily skin. Or maybe a cream stick offers more control and pigment for you. Many brands, including Elf, offer various contouring products. While the Halo Glow Wand didn't work for me in the fair/light shade, I've had great experiences with other Elf products, so it's always worth exploring their wider range. For example, some people swear by their Putty Bronzer as a contour option, or their traditional contour palettes.
When it comes to where to buy these products, Elf is super accessible! You can usually find their entire range at drugstores like Walmart, Target, CVS, and Ulta Beauty. Online, websites like Amazon, Ulta, and Elf Cosmetics' own site are great places to check for availability and often have sales. Just make sure to read reviews specific to your skin tone before making a purchase, especially after my little pigment mishap! Finding your perfect contour product can be a bit of a journey, but with these tips, I hope you can navigate the beauty aisles a little more confidently and avoid any disappearing acts!
