Best Kauai Hikes

Hikes on Kauai are breathtaking. The whole island is gorgeous. Here are a couple of my favorite hikes from our trip.

💚Kalalau Trail - This trail is insanely gorgeous from start to finish. It’s an out and back trail which is 22 miles total. Most people just do a four mile or eight mile option. The four mile option takes you to to Hanakapi’ai beach. Eight miles takes you to the beach and the Hanakapi’ai waterfall. We hiked to the beach and loved it.

The hike starts in Haena State Park. You need to either reserve a parking spot or reserve the shuttle. It is recommended that you take the shuttle. The shuttle was easy, it took us directly to Haena state park and then back to parking lot when we were done.

The hike has some of the most gorgeous view I’ve ever seen. The Napali coast is rough and rugged. The peaks drop straight down into the ocean. The beach is beautiful white sand. You can soak in the sun and take a rest. It is recommended to stay out of the water as the tides can be strong and unpredictable at this beach.

The hike is medium difficulty, but I would classify as difficult if you don’t hike or work out regularly. The hike can be super muddy if the island has gotten recent rain. Try to be flexible on when to do the hike. Overall, this was probably my favorite thing we did on Kauai and I definitely recommend doing this hike.

💚Canyon Trail to Waipo’o Falls - This trail took us down into Waimea canyon. Throughout the hike, we had amazing views of the canyon walls. At the end of the hike was Waipo’o falls. The waterfall didn’t have a ton of water, but it was a nice added bonus. The real highlight was all the canyon views. Make sure to take the small side trail to the Cliff Trail lookout. It’s a beautiful lookout and adds only and extra 10-15 minutes. This hike was medium difficulty. There were older people and kids hiking, so I say it’s doable for all ages.
