Wailua Shave Ice - Shave Ice is a must-try on Kauai. It’s light, sweet, and super refreshing. We loved Wailua Shave Ice. The ice was super fine and they offered up many different flavors. We got the taro flavor with mochi. It was sweet and the mochi added the perfect chewy bite. The shave ice was huge and could easily be split by two or three people.
Kauai Juice Co - This shop offers fresh, locally made juices and kombucha. The juice is incredibly delicious. They have many different combinations of fruits and veggies. Every drink is full of flavor. If you like kombucha, you should definitely try it. Their kombucha is sold all over this island. Try to go in the morning as they often sell out of flavors by the afternoon.
Nourish Hanalei - Nourish Hanalei serves up a variety delicious, local grown dishes. Some popular options are acai bowls, salads, and wraps. We tried their acai bowl and it was delicious. It was also beautifully plated. The stand also has incredible views of Hanalei. Parking was a little tricky here, so you’ll want to visit at a less popular time.
Kauai Coffee - a local coffee farm serving up the beans they grow right on the island. You can tour the farm, try some free samples, and get some of your own beans to take home. Inside the visitor center, they have free samples and a cafe where you can buy different drinks. We got a macadamia nut latte. It was delicious!
Kenji Burger - this spot is a local chain known for their delicious burgers. Many of their flavors are Asian inspired. You should definitely try their furikake fries. They are saucy and delicious. The burger was fresh and the meat was great quality. This burger joint is a must try!
Shrimp Station - Shrimp Station serves up tasty shrimp! They serve up flavors like garlic shrimp and cajun shrimp. I got their coconut shrimp. They were amazing! Perfectly crispy and crunchy. This restaurant is a great spot to hit up after you are finished hiking Waimea Canyon.
Hamura Saimin - This is a small local joint serving up some traditional saimin. Saimin is a Hawaiian fusion dish with asian roots. It’s a noodle soup with toppings like fish cake and green onions. It’s simple, delicious, and comforting. This place is cash only, so make sure to bring some with you.
Hanalei Poke - this was some of the freshest and tastiest poke on Kauai. They have so many different flavor combinations. You’ll definitely find one that sounds interesting to try. It’s a small shop, but there is some outdoor seating. It’s also super close to Hanalei beach, so you can take your poke and enjoy it on the beach.
Lotus Ramen & Hibachi - this was some of the best ramen I had on Kauai. The broth flavor was so delicious. I also got char siu. While it’s not a traditional ramen topping, it was so good! The char siu was sweet and chewy. It complemented the broth perfectly. If you like ramen, I definitely recommend trying this place out.
Duke’s - Located right on the beach, you can enjoy a delicious meal and an amazing view. The food is all fresh and delicious. I got the macadamia nut crusted fish. It was crispy and the fish was soft and flakey. Duke’s is also known for their Hula Pie. It is a huge ice cream pie piece. It’s a fun shareable dessert - perfect for the end of your meal. Duke’s is a little more expensive, but worth the splurge.
