... Read moreYou know that feeling when spring finally arrives after a long winter, and you're just itching to get out and bask in nature's reawakening? I was searching for the perfect spot to truly soak it all in here in Omaha, and let me tell you, Lauritzen Gardens absolutely delivered! It’s not just another 'thing to do'; it’s an immersive experience that truly celebrates the season, offering a much-needed burst of color and life. My visit started in the conservatories, and stepping inside was like entering a different world. The air was instantly warmer and humid, filled with the exotic scents of tropical flora, a welcome escape from any lingering chill outside. I was captivated by the sheer variety, from the large green tropical plants with prominent leaves that towered over me, to the delicate orchids nestled among rocks. I even spotted a sign near an intriguing plant formation that said 'PTERANODON' – it adds a fun, almost prehistoric feel to the lush greenhouse environment! You’ll also find unique beauties like the Calathea with its strikingly striped leaves, making every corner a visual delight. It’s such a fantastic way to get your dose of vibrant greenery and warmth, even if the outdoor gardens haven't fully woken up yet. Then, venturing outside into the expansive 100 acres, you can truly feel spring coming alive. There’s so much thoughtful design here, with pathways that lead you through various themed gardens. On my trip, I was lucky enough to catch some of the vibrant pink peony flowers blooming beautifully amidst lush green leaves, creating stunning splashes of color. It truly is breathtaking to see nature's artistry unfold. I spent a good amount of time just wandering through areas featuring dense, hanging green foliage, enjoying the tranquil atmosphere and the way sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a peaceful, shaded retreat. Each garden section tells its own story, whether it's the formal rose garden, the serene Japanese garden, or the prairie landscape in bloom. If you're planning a visit, I'd highly recommend dedicating at least a few hours, especially in spring, to truly explore everything. They have a lovely café on-site too, perfect for a coffee break or a light lunch amidst all the botanical beauty. I always suggest checking their website beforehand for any special spring exhibits or events; they often host unique displays that enhance the experience even further. The entire garden is super accessible, with well-maintained paths, making it easy for everyone, from families with strollers to individuals seeking a quiet stroll, to enjoy. I've often searched for things to do at watergardens or similar serene, natural spots, and while Lauritzen Gardens isn't exclusively a watergarden, it certainly offers that tranquil, lush escape. The diversity of its environments, from the vibrant tropical greenhouses to the vast outdoor acreage, provides such a rich and enriching experience. It's a wonderful place to bring family, friends, or simply enjoy some introspective time alone with nature. Every visit feels a little different depending on what’s in bloom and the time of year, making it a place you’ll want to return to again and again. Seriously, if you're looking for a refreshing and beautiful spring activity in Omaha, put Lauritzen Gardens at the top of your list – you absolutely won't regret it!
