What Do You Think?: Meal Planning Edition

With school officially in swing in my area, I know it’s going to get hectic. Having twin kindergarteners means lots of assistance with homework and basically every task. To help combat wasting time, I have decided to meal plan!

I generally grocery shop pantry and freezer items in 2 week increments while produce and dairy is purchased weekly. This means that I purchase bread, cheese, lunch meats, etc on a biweekly basis. Sticking to my menu and being able to meal prep as much as possible during the week is going to help elevate much stress that comes from supper.

This will allow me to better focus on my kids and making sure they have the necessary attention they need to excel in school. It also allows me to spend as much time with them as possible. Not to mention it eliminates the dreaded “I don’t know” when you ask what everyone wants for supper!

How do you feel about meal planning? What helps you stick to your menu? What works for your family!

Start by identifying your family’s favorite meals, creating a rotating menu, and assigning specific days for each dish. Utilizing grocery lists helps streamline the shopping experience, ensuring you have all necessary ingredients on hand. Experiment with batch cooking, preparing larger portions on weekends to save time during the week. The convenience of ready-to-go meals allows for more family time, especially important for parents with demanding schedules. Moreover, consider incorporating seasonal produce into your meals for both nutritional benefits and cost savings. Don’t forget to engage your children in meal prep; teaching them simple cooking skills fosters independence and builds confidence. Lastly, remember that flexibility is key in meal planning. If your schedule changes or your kids’ tastes evolve, adapt your plans to keep things enjoyable. With these strategies, meal planning becomes a stress-reliever rather than a chore, leading to healthier eating habits and happier family meals.
