Scheduling 101: From a Target Worker🛍️📅
If you're new at Target (or any retail job), this scheduling trick will save your sanity:
✅ Always set specific days off in your availability — don’t leave it wide open.
💡 Why? It gives you more control over your week and helps prevent last-minute shifts or burnout.
I personally love my new set schedule — I finally know which days I’ll be off, and it’s made planning life outside of work way easier. 🙌🏼
It might sound small, but mentally it’s made a huge difference.

Hey everyone! So, building on my earlier tip about setting specific days off for your Target schedule, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into managing your hours and making the most of your time as a team member. When I first started working at Target, figuring out the scheduling system felt like a maze. With my Target name tag proudly displayed, I quickly realized that taking proactive steps was key to a balanced life. One of the biggest questions I had was, “How do I even check my Target employee schedule?” For us, the main platforms are usually MyTime or the Workday app. Seriously, download them if you haven't already! They're lifesavers for viewing your digital schedule, checking your specific work hours, and seeing when your next shift is. I make it a habit to check mine a few times a week, especially after new schedules drop, just to make sure I haven't missed any updates. It's so much easier than trying to remember what was written on a paper in the breakroom back in the day! Beyond just checking your schedule, understanding how to manage your availability is crucial. My tip about setting unavailable days is just the beginning. It's not just about saying “I can't work Wednesdays and Saturdays”; it's about communicating your needs clearly and consistently. When you first set your availability, be honest about your commitments. If you have classes, another job, or family responsibilities, put them down. It’s much harder to change it later than to set it correctly from the start. I've heard stories of team members who left their availability wide open, only to regret it when they were scheduled for every closing shift or on days they desperately needed off. Don't be that person! What happens when life throws a curveball and you need to change your Target work schedule last minute? This is where communication with your team leads or HR comes in. If you need to swap a shift, try to find a coworker willing to cover it before you approach a leader. Most stores have a system for shift swaps, sometimes even directly through MyTime. If it’s a planned absence, like a doctor’s appointment or a short vacation, submit your time off request as far in advance as possible. The more notice you give, the higher the chance it will be approved. I once had a family emergency, and because I communicated immediately and clearly, my leaders were super understanding and helped me adjust my Target schedule without any hassle. Finally, for all the new Target workers out there, remember that you’re not alone in navigating this. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Your ETLs (Executive Team Leaders) and TLs (Team Leaders) are there to help, and so are your fellow team members. We've all been new once, and learning the ropes of Target scheduling takes a bit of time. From understanding how Target mobile schedule works to knowing when Target workday schedule updates, there's a lot to absorb. But by taking control of your availability and using the tools available, you can truly make your Target employee schedule work for you, not against you. It really makes a difference to know your Target working hours are manageable, allowing you to enjoy your life outside the store!
