Retail Tips from Your Favorite Target Employee!🎯

As someone who’s worked in retail for years, I can confidently say there are 3 small things that make a HUGE difference for us retail workers — and can totally make our day 💗✨

1️⃣ Be NICE!!

I know… it’s wild that this even needs to be said 😅 But truly, kindness goes a long way. A smile, a thank you, or just treating us with the same respect you’d want makes the biggest difference.

💡And honestly? If you're nice, we’ll usually go above and beyond for you. We remember the kind guests!!

But when you’re rude or demanding, it definitely factors into how hard we’re willing to try… just being real 😬

2️⃣ Do a quick app check 📲

If you’re looking for a specific item, try checking the Target app first before asking — it can even tell you if our store carries it and which aisle it’s in!

💡Even better? Show us the photo from the app! It makes it so much easier for us to help. Saying “Where’s that thingy?” is sooo vague 😅 Help us help you!

3️⃣ Please know we can only do so much ❤️

If something shows “in stock” online but we can’t find it, we’re not hiding it, I promise!! 😅 It could be miscounted, stolen, or just wandered off in the store (yes, really!). We get just as frustrated too.

We love helping you, and a little prep + patience makes the experience better for everyone! 🛒💬

... Read moreIt's amazing how a few simple actions can completely change the vibe of a shopping trip, not just for you, but for us folks wearing the red shirts too! Having spent countless hours navigating the aisles of Target, I've picked up on a few more things that truly make a difference, building on those initial tips I shared. Let's talk more about that app check. When you come up to me and say, "I saw this online, can you find it?" my first thought is always, "Did they check the app?" It’s not because I don't want to help – quite the opposite! The Target app is genuinely our best friend for locating items. It's often more accurate and faster for us than relying solely on our handheld devices, especially for specific products. Plus, if you can show me the exact item on your phone, preferably with the DPCI number, it cuts down search time significantly. Imagine trying to find 'that white shirt' versus 'the A New Day Women's Ribbed Crewneck T-Shirt in size Medium, DPCI 000-00-0000.' It’s a game-changer! This is especially true in sections like beauty products, where there are so many similar-looking items. Knowing which aisle it should be in helps us narrow down our physical search quickly, rather than guessing. And speaking of those sometimes-elusive items, the 'in stock online but not in store' dilemma is real, and trust me, we understand the frustration. We're not hiding your item in the back, I promise! From our side, there are so many reasons this can happen. Sometimes a guest changes their mind and leaves an item in a completely random spot – like a frozen pizza in the toy aisle. Other times, something might have been scanned incorrectly during a previous purchase, throwing off the inventory count. Or, unfortunately, it could have been stolen. It's a constant battle to keep shelves perfectly stocked and accurately accounted for. We spend a lot of our time pushing shopping carts full of new stock, trying to get everything out, and even then, things can go missing fast. When we tell you it's not here, it's usually after we've genuinely searched the designated spot, the backroom, and even common misplaced areas. Your patience and understanding when this happens truly mean the world to us. We’re on your team, trying to get you what you need! Wearing the red uniform shirt makes you a beacon of help in the store. People approach you with all sorts of questions, and while most are straightforward, some really test your problem-solving skills! It’s not just about knowing where the paper towels are; it's about navigating complex returns, finding obscure items, or even just brightening someone's day with a friendly chat. One time, I helped a frantic parent find a last-minute birthday gift, and the relief on their face was so rewarding. It’s those moments that make the job worthwhile. So next time you see a Target employee in their signature red uniform shirt, remember there’s a person behind it, doing their best to make your shopping experience smooth and enjoyable. A little empathy and a quick app check can work wonders for everyone involved!
