rate my KL eats with me! 🍜🥐

i recently went to kl with my bf as a little getaway after my final poly exams and needless to say, my appetite came back from all the studying i did 🥰 here's just some of the foods i had there that are worth trying, but i won't talk too much about the price points because honestly this trip was to reward myself from all the stress i had going (all i knew was that u can't get these prices in sg sooo) ⬇️

Brööm at Bukit Bintang ⭐️ 3.5/5

🥨 Let's Do Brekkie with Scrambled Eggs, Sourdough, Avocado & Smoked Salmon

🥨 Seafoodie Goodness Pasta

🥨 Hot White

🥨 Fizzy Kombucha

• this was our first meal in kl and i was really looking for an affordable cafe to chill and relax. i really liked the vibes of this place as it wasn't too noisy and it felt comfortable just to sit there and people watch, or even study with a view to look at since its 2 floors. my fav dish we ordered would be the pasta. it was filled with herbs and spices that i can't explain and it really complimented well with the seafood. the sourdough was... meh... it wasn't the crispiest and was hard to bite (even the knife couldn't fully cut through) 😞 the drinks were normal though and i would head back there to try other foods as the menu is quite diverse!

Village Park Restaurant ⭐️ 3/5

🥨 Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng

we came during lunch hour and it was packed with people, but that's when u know it's gonna hit. but... i think it's a little overrated as i had high expectations for this. the rice wasn't as flavourful as i anticipated and their chilli wasn't hitting? it was neither sweet or spicy so i was a bit confused while eating. the chicken was so tender and juicy though, i think this is one of the few times i enjoyed eating chicken drum legs as it was so easy to peel the meat off the bone as someone who prefers boneless chickens. i think because of how big and savoury the chicken was, it blended well with the not so flavourful rice and chilli, so i guess it was a good balance after all 😌 would still come back to retry this as many people have disagreed with my opinions on this

The Tokyo Restaurant ⭐️ 4.5/5

🥨 Imperial Wagyu Beef Curry

🥨 Saikyo Miso Lamb Chop

🥨 Unagi Kabayaki Roll

• honestly not sure if i got the names of these dishes right cause all i remembered was how flavourful each of these dishes were 😅 there's only 1 lamb dish in the entire menu if i'm not wrong and it came with buttered rice which felt so sinful because the entire pan served to us was quite oily. HOWEVER, the lamb didn't had a strong smell and because it was sooo tender, i kept reaching out for more. the wagyu beef curry was good too, but i would have enjoyed it if it was spicier even though yes i know it's jap curry. BUT the beef omg... so soft and i savoured every bite of it 🤭 as for the sushi roll, it was alright, nothing too impressive but it still tasted good. the only regret we had was that we didn't order any dessert... would def come back to try them tho!

Tanba Japanese BBQ & Sukiyaki ⭐️ 4/5

🥨 Yakiniku Buffet Course (Basic)

• ordered every single beef item on the menu and needless to say, it was mouth watering as every bite of beef melted in our mouths. as a beef lover, i highly recommend the quality of the beef slices they served here. 🥩 they also had sashimi and kimchi in the menu so i ate those to cleanse my pallet once in awhile during our meal.

we were the only ones in the restaurant eating at around 6.30pm until about 8pm when the crowd started coming in. the ambience was really romantic and calming, which i think is really suitable for couples to go and have a meal at! however this meal was more expensive than i anticipated, but judging at the amount of beef we ordered, i think it was worth the price 🤩

Llyod's Inn ⭐️ 3.5/5

🥨 Beef Shakshouka

• we actually stayed at this hotel that served complimentary breakfast. they only serve 2 dishes every day (for breakfast, to my knowledge) and i think this dish was one of the best ones since it isn't really a common dish u can find in sg. it came with sourdough that was crispy and matched perfectly with the rich and thick sauce with minced beef. i would have liked it better if the dish was served hot, as it came a little cold, but nonetheless i enjoyed this meal wholeheartedly

KLCG Confectionary & Bakery ⭐️ 4/5

🥨 Fish & Chips

🥨 Chef's Steak Focaccia

🥨 Ajisai Matcha (with and without Strawberry)

🥨 Pain Suisse Pistachio Praline

🥨 Creme Brulee Fian

• ngl it was super hot and humid before we arrived to this place, and all we wanted was some drinks to cool down. their matcha was pretty delectable and better than niko neko imo.... it was neither too sweet or too bitter. the fish & chips were hands down one of the bests i've had. the batter was so flavourful and unlike other places that only serve thin fish slices with thick batters, this place served thick batter AND fish meat 🐟 the portion was bigger than my hand and it came with super crispy fries that was served hot. the steak in focaccia was so tender, but the portion was a little small, so towards the end i was only eating the bread together with the sauce. lastly, i ordered takeaway for the pastries and ate them after refrigerating them for awhile. i found them alright but it didn't leave a lasting impact on me (but maybe i just prefer savoury foods, a lot of people came to this cafe just to eat their pastries)

Kanbe Ramen ⭐️ 5/5

🥨 Kanbe Tonkotsu Tsukemen

• tried tsukemen for the first time and i felt like i ascended to heaven omg... i might be a little biased when it comes to jap food since it's one of my fav cuisines, but this one really hits the spot. imagine queueing in line and smelling the aromatic goodness of ramen bowls being served each time a server walks pass 🤤 their regular ramen was good too, but i found their soup a little too sweet for my liking as i prefer my soup base a little saltier. their service was also on point and i enjoyed ordering from the piece of paper given where we could customise our bowls 😆 the vibrant staff members were also so enjoyable to be around with so i highly recc this place if you're looking for jap food!

During my recent trip, I made it a point to try a variety of local and Japanese-inspired dishes, soaking in not just the flavors but also the atmosphere each place offered. One of the highlights was definitely the Japanese BBQ experience at Tanba. As a beef lover, I was pleasantly surprised by the tenderness and quality of the yakiniku cuts, and the inclusion of kimchi and sashimi on the menu added refreshing palate cleansers between the rich meat flavors. The intimate and romantic vibe there makes it ideal for couples or anyone looking for a relaxed, elevated dining experience—even if a bit pricier than expected. Another favorite was Kanbe Ramen, where I discovered tsukemen, a dipping-style ramen that truly blew me away with its rich, aromatic broth and perfectly cooked noodles. Customizing your bowl with a simple order slip made the experience interactive and fun, while the staff’s vibrant energy enhanced the overall enjoyment. It’s a must-visit for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts craving authentic taste. On the other hand, spots like Village Park Restaurant gave me a chance to sample the iconic nasi lemak ayam goreng. Despite the mixed feelings about the rice and chili, the chicken’s tenderness and flavor were outstanding, proving that even classic dishes can have their own interpretations across different eateries in KL. The cafe scene also deserves mention—Brööm’s seafood pasta was bursting with herbal flavors, perfect for a laid-back brunch, while KLCG Confectionary & Bakery impressed me with their fish & chips, showcasing a delightfully thick batter and a generous fish portion that’s rare to find. Their matcha drinks helped cool down in KL’s humid weather and stood out for having a balanced, enjoyable flavor. Overall, my KL food journey was a vivid exploration of tastes and textures. Each place holds its unique charm and culinary offerings, and revisiting them to try different menu items is definitely on my list. If you’re planning a food-focused retreat to KL, balancing your itinerary with both established favorites and hidden gems like these could really enhance your experience.
