Gay and trans people have always existed, and always will. As you read the vile hatred from bigots under pride posts remember the LGBTQ community deals with it year round and that is the entire reason for pride month.
We see you and you are safe with me!
Living as a member or an ally of the LGBTQ+ community means understanding the constant challenges that come with being different in a largely heteronormative world. Pride Month offers us not only a chance to celebrate identities but also a crucial moment to acknowledge the struggles faced by gay and trans people every day. The hateful comments and attacks that surface during Pride celebrations can be deeply hurtful; however, they also highlight the need for continued visibility and advocacy. From personal experience, the reassurance of hearing "We see you and you are safe with me" can be incredibly uplifting. It matters to feel supported, especially when confronting negativity that seeks to invalidate one’s existence. The reminder from the OCR text, "Maybe you should be more concerned with the monsters who prey on children instead of attacking adults who love people of the same gender," powerfully redirects the conversation toward true concerns and exposes attempts to scapegoat love and identity. It’s essential to champion environments where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live without fear. Whether through sharing affirming messages, educating others, or simply standing beside those affected by bigotry, each action helps build a safer, more inclusive society. Pride Month serves as a visible call to arms to support the LGBTQ+ community not only in June but every month of the year. Being an ally means consistent engagement, understanding, and compassion — which are vital to fostering change and ensuring that love prevails over hate.
