Ultimate Heartbreak
From the day I was born I was born I was a Granny's girl. I was in and out the hospital as a baby and my granny was always in rotation with my mom and dad.
Growing up I knew my Saturdays was spending the day with Granny. I literally did not care where we went I was just happy to be riding. I could probably tell you about every discount and thrift store from Morganton to Gastonia as a child. That
was my Grannys favorite thing to do. Get up early and hit the yard sales and find some deals. She could negotiate anything down.
We would get her deals and then she would have a list of things she had to get for other people. Usually someone was sick or just didn't have the money and she would take care of it for them. Once we finished running around we would drop the things off and people would try to pay her and she would never take the money. I would be like Granny you gotta get some of your money back. She would say no. They are in need and I have it to give. She said I get it all back in blessings. She always told me you just have to do right by people and it always comes back.
My granny had a room that was connected to her room that she made my room and every night I stayed I would hop in her bed and she was like you have a room right there you ain't getting in my bed and tearing my back up and I would say I'm just going to stay for a little while and would fall asleep every time. The next morning she would say you got me again didn't you and we would both just crack up.
When I left for college, she called me everyday...and twice if she saw anything about Durham on the news. She would say I just miss you so much and I missed her too but she would say I am so happy you are gone and making something of yourself.
There was never a moment I had to wonder if she was proud of me because she told me often.
I chose this song because this was her favorite. I remember cracking up at her ringtone one day and I told her Granny you can put a real song on there (this was when ringtones were a big deal) and she said I know exactly what song I want on there. So I put it on there and she kept it for yearssss lol I would be like Granny there are new songs we can change it to and she would say "Girl that ringtone ain't bothering nobody but you, I can't hear it half the time no ways"
Once I had Kalia, she instantly become Granny's girl. Granny loved some baby K. She got good at video chat on FB so she could see her and we chatted ALL THE TIME even if it was just 5 minutes so she could see her Baby K. One of the last things she did was meet my mom in Gastonia to pick K up and took her to McDonald's and shopping.
Granny, I honestly don't know how life is just supposed to keep going without you. I've been sick to my stomach since the day you passed. I feel like every morning I wake up my heart breaks all over again. Sometimes it feels like I can't breath. The only thing that keeps me going is you telling me to "Keep Going". Anytime you weren't feeling well I would tell you I worry about you and you would say "Don't worry about Granny, Granny is good..you need to worry about you and Baby K down there in Charlotte everytime I turn on the news something is happening down there" 😆 🤣 I would just laugh and tell her stop watching the news you gonna worry too much and she would say and you worry too much about me so I don't want hear it.
At your funeral, everyone shared how good your heart was and I know you were smiling down because that's all you did was do right by people and loved on everyone. If any of my friends met you and you found something they liked, you had some more for them every single time I would visit.
You were my EVERYTHING granny. I'm so happy K had 5 years of memories with you. I feel like you were robbed of so much time with K but one of your last words were I'M AT PEACE and that's one of the things I cling too. I'm happy that you are at peace and you are back with Uncle Pete, Paw Paw, and Uncle Donnie because you missed them so much.
This is the hardest thing I've dealt with ever but I'm trying Granny. I can hear you now, "Girl stop all that crying, Granny is good" I know you are I hear you loud and clear. I'm gonna make sure K never forgets you and continue to KEEP GOING like I know you would want.
I LOVE YOU GRANNY AND WILL FOREVER MISS YOU. REST EASY UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN.
