If you could add one thing to you hospital bag!

... Read moreWhen I was pregnant, the 'hospital bag' list felt endless, especially when it came to what our newborn baby would need! Beyond my own essentials, I spent so much time researching what to pack *for baby*. Now, looking back after experiencing those first precious days, I can tell you what truly made a difference for us and what you might want to consider for your own little one's hospital bag. First up, clothing for your newborn. Hospitals often provide basic onesies, but having a few of your own soft, comfortable outfits is a game-changer. Think 2-3 sleepers or onesies in newborn size, preferably with built-in mittens to protect those delicate faces from tiny scratches. Don't forget a special 'going home' outfit! We picked out a sweet little green sleeper and a white knitted hat for our sleeping newborn's debut to the outside world, and it made the photos even more memorable. It's so exciting to finally dress them in something you picked out with love. Next, diapers and wipes. While the hospital usually supplies these, it's a good idea to bring a small pack of your preferred brand, especially if you have sensitive skin in mind. Sometimes, the hospital brands might not agree with your baby's delicate skin. Also, a soft, sensitive skin wipe is always a good backup. For feeding, if you're planning to breastfeed, you might not need much for baby directly, but consider a nursing pillow for comfort. If you're formula-feeding, bring a small container of your chosen formula and a couple of bottles. Hospitals usually have samples, but having your own ensures consistency from day one. Comfort items for baby are also key. A soft, light blanket (like the gray and white checkered one in some of our photos!) can be great for swaddling, even if the hospital provides them. It adds a personal touch and can help make your baby feel more secure. Some parents like to bring a pacifier, though it's always good to check with your pediatrician or lactation consultant if you plan to breastfeed. And finally, the most crucial item for leaving the hospital: your car seat. This isn't just a suggestion; it's a requirement! Make sure it's properly installed and inspected before you go into labor. We had ours ready, and it was such a relief to just place our newborn baby in it for the ride home, knowing they were safe and snug. Seeing those tiny feet peeking out from under the blanket in the car seat is a moment you won't forget. Don't forget any small yellow items or toys you might want to attach for comfort or just for a cute photo op! Packing a hospital bag for your newborn baby doesn't have to be overwhelming. Focus on comfort, safety, and a few personal touches that will make those first days even more special. Every item you pack is a little step towards welcoming your baby earthside!
