The Day I Gave a Damn
I remember the day I didn’t care,
Running the streets without a prayer.
High on my hustle, chasing my greed,
Feeding myself, ignoring their needs.
Cash in my pocket, smoke in my lungs,
Pride in my chest, too wild, too young.
While others were starving, broken, and poor,
I slammed the door and asked for more.
But years carve truth into hardened skin,
And silence screams from the pain within.
I see the blind led down by lies,
Marching to slaughter with empty eyes.
Depression whispers, loneliness calls,
Mental prisons with crumbling walls.
People are drowning, while others just grin,
As long as their life is intact within.
“Survival of the fittest” - the world’s cheap song,
Blah, blah, blah, but it’s dead-ass wrong.
For humans need humans, even the cruel,
Even the foolish, the angry, the fool.
So today I stand, my spirit awake,
I give a damn for the hearts that break.
For the ones who curse, for the ones who bleed,
For the ones still blind in a world of greed.
I give a damn for the lost, the mad,
For the hurting souls who’ve never had.
Because pain spreads fire when no one cares,
And healing starts when a burden is shared.
So no more running, no selfish plan
Today’s the day I gave a damn.
