my version of momo , okarun and grandma
It's fascinating how many people search for 'Momo's Grandma' and sometimes get mixed up with characters from other anime like My Hero Academia's Recovery Girl! While both grandmas are incredibly memorable, the anime-style illustration I'm sharing here is inspired by the fantastic Dandadan series. For those unfamiliar, Dandadan features Momo Ayase, a spirited high school girl, Okarun (Ken Takakura), her classmate with a knack for attracting supernatural entities, and of course, Momo's eccentric and powerful Grandma. They make such a chaotic and lovable trio! When I was working on this piece, I really wanted to bring out the distinct personalities of Momo, Okarun, and Grandma. I focused on Momo's angry expression, which is iconic for her when things get wild. It was a blast envisioning Okarun and Grandma both pointing, adding to the dramatic (and likely comedic) tension of the scene. I paid close attention to details like Momo's reddish-brown hair, her pink top, and blue skirt, ensuring they matched her character design. Okarun in his black suit always looks sharp, even when facing down yokai. And Grandma? Her distinctive blue and yellow jacket with that amazing cape, her white hair, and glasses make her instantly recognizable. Capturing her wise yet mischievous look was a fun challenge! Drawing characters from Dandadan is such a rewarding experience because of their unique looks and highly expressive faces. If you're into creating anime fan art, I highly recommend giving these characters a try! For anyone looking to improve their anime-style illustration, my personal tip is to really study the character's core traits and how they express emotions. For Momo, it's often her fiery determination or exasperation; for Grandma, it's her calm wisdom mixed with unexpected power. Don't be afraid to exaggerate expressions a little – it can make your art feel more alive and dynamic. Thinking about their iconic outfits, like Grandma's blue and yellow jacket and cape, or Momo's bright top and blue skirt, helps in bringing out their essence. It's all about telling a story through your drawing, even if it’s just a single frame, and connecting with the series you love.
