Thanon Charoen Krung Bangkok Best Walks

Did you know that Charoenkrung is the first road in Thailand?

Built during 1862-1864, the road was a main commercial district. And though Bangkok’s central business district has expanded to other areas, Charoenkrung has been retaining the charm in forms of old shophouse businesses, while new places are shaping it into a so-called creative district.

It is made up of 10 shophouses that have been transformed into a cafe, a bakery, a jazz bar, a vinyl record store and outlets such as C43: Fashion and Inspiration Space. The last is a vintage clothing boutique that hosts artists-in-residence and art workshops. Also in Charoen 43 is the restaurant Small Dinner Plates, which has dishes made with unusual Thai ingredients on its menu.

How to get to /Charoen Krung Road

To get to Charoenkrung, take the BTS Skytrain to Saphan Taksin station (Exit 3) and be greeted by these iconic red pickup trucks called Songthaews.
