Sharing a few of my favorite color palettes 🎨
I love to plan out a nice color palette before beginning most projects. I normally sketch out the project on my iPad and then play around with color ideas! This helps me when yarn shopping, so I can try and buy within the same brand if they have all of the colors I want.
Sometimes I also like to look up random words and add a color palette to the end. An example would be “beach color palette” and save any results that I love! I would say my favorites result in an ombré of some sort. Whether it’s an ombré from light to dark or color to color, I enjoy them the most.

Choosing the right color palette is essential to creating a visually appealing crochet project. Many crafters start by researching color schemes that evoke the mood or theme they want to achieve. Color palettes like “Valentine’s Special,” “Beach Weekend,” and “Winter Wonderland” draw from nature and seasonal experiences to offer harmonious combinations that are both eye-catching and meaningful. Ombre palettes, which feature a gradual blending of shades from light to dark or one color transitioning to another, are highly popular among crochet artists. These palettes create depth and texture visually, enhancing the handcrafted quality of crochet blankets and garments. Using an ombre style can simplify yarn shopping by allowing the selection of yarns within the same brand and collection, ensuring color consistency. To build your own color palette, start by sketching your project digitally, such as using an iPad or computer app, and experiment with different hues and gradients. Incorporate natural themes or personal inspiration by searching terms like "forest color palette" or "s’mores ombre" for tailored color ideas. Saving these palettes can guide you during yarn selection and ensure your final project reflects a cohesive artistic vision. Furthermore, the crochet community frequently shares their favorite pallets and projects on social platforms, allowing you to draw inspiration and gather input. Hashtags like #crochetcommunity, #colorpalette, and #yarnlife connect you with a wealth of ideas, fostering creativity and connection. By combining these strategies, you can elevate your crochet projects with beautiful, well-thought-out colors that bring your handcrafted creations to life.
