How to create your own book sleeve✨

I made 5 book covers in one day and here’s how I did it!

Make a granny square and test it against your book! The granny square should cover the front of your book and halfway down the sides. Make a 2nd granny square and sew the two together on 3 sides.

Continue the same 3 double crochet cluster stitch along the top, make sure to crochet into each open space. I made 5 rows to cover my book completely. Add a hdc row as your last row and fasten off!

This was a pretty easy project and it worked up pretty quickly, only taking 1-1.5 hours to complete.

Do you think you’ll make one? What colors would you use? I’d love to see your creations if you do make one!

When I first started, I found that choosing the right size granny square is crucial—it needs to cover the front of your book and extend halfway down the sides to provide full protection without being too bulky. Using the double crochet cluster stitch adds a textured and durable fabric that holds its shape well around the book. I recommend measuring your book beforehand and testing the granny square against it to ensure a snug fit. The technique of sewing two granny squares together on three sides creates a perfect sleeve-like enclosure that's easy to slide your book into. One of the great things about this project is the ability to customize colors and patterns. I loved mixing vibrant shades to match the book covers or your personal style. Some crafters use variegated yarns or themed color schemes, which make each sleeve unique. In terms of finishing touches, adding a half double crochet (hdc) row at the edge not only secures the stitches but also gives a neat border. After fastening off, you can also add small embellishments, like crocheted flowers or buttons, for extra flair. This project typically takes between one and one and a half hours, making it perfect for a weekend craft session. Plus, making these sleeves in multiples allows you to gift them to fellow book lovers or keep a collection for different books. From my experience, using soft but sturdy yarns like cotton blends helps maintain the sleeve's durability without being too stiff. Wash your finished sleeve gently by hand to preserve the yarn texture. Overall, making a crochet book sleeve is a satisfying blend of creativity and utility. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crocheter, this project is a great way to personalize and protect your books, and it’s fun to see the vibrant colors come to life as you craft. If you do try making one, experimenting with stitch variations or embellishments can make your project even more unique. Happy crocheting!
