Execution vs Theory
This message right here stopped me in my tracks for a second. Not because it offended me—but because it perfectly highlights a disconnect that doesn’t get talked about enough.
I reached out with a simple question to see if someone was open to an opportunity… and this was the response.
And respectfully, this is where the gap between education and execution becomes very real.
There’s nothing wrong with studying public relations, business, or marketing. But let’s be honest—many people are being taught by individuals who have never had to build something from the ground up. No pressure. No uncertainty. No real “figure it out or fail” moments.
Because when you’re actually in the field building a business from scratch, it looks very different:
You don’t wait for perfect introductions.
You don’t rely on inbound traffic.
You don’t have a guaranteed audience.
You create opportunities.
That means starting conversations.
That means hearing “no.”
That means sometimes reaching out before you feel 100% comfortable.
That’s not being a nuisance—that’s called prospecting, adapting, and building.
The reality is, theory will often teach you how things should work in a perfect environment.
But entrepreneurship teaches you how things work in real life.
And in real life, you may have to get a little scrappy. You may have to go “boots on the ground.” You may even have to go a little “barbarian” in your approach—consistent, resilient, and unafraid to initiate.
There’s a difference between being disrespectful and being proactive.
And I’ll always choose to be someone who respectfully takes action over someone who stays inactive because it feels more “proper.”
At the end of the day, I don’t just want to understand business—I want to build one.
And that requires a level of execution most classrooms simply can’t replicate.

From my personal experience stepping into entrepreneurship, I've realized that the lessons learned in classrooms hardly prepare you for the unpredictable nature of building a business from scratch. While theory provides the foundation, execution demands a different mindset—one that embraces rejection, uncertainty, and relentless initiative. For example, when I first started, I was hesitant to reach out to potential clients or partners without a perfect introduction or guaranteed interest. I quickly learned that waiting for ideal conditions only delays progress. You must be willing to initiate conversations, even if it means facing discomfort or hearing 'no' repeatedly. The reality is also shaped by the tools you use to create opportunities. Social media, networking events, and direct messaging are often perceived as intrusive; however, when done respectfully and strategically, they become powerful methods for prospecting and business growth. The key is balancing persistence with professionalism, always respecting boundaries but remaining consistent. Building a business requires resilience and adaptability, traits seldom taught in formal education but vital in real life. You learn to become what some call 'scrappy'—finding creative solutions, shifting tactics after setbacks, and persevering despite obstacles. In contrast to many academic teachings, entrepreneurship often means going beyond passive learning and embracing an active, hands-on approach. It’s about doing what others won’t to create tangible results. This means sometimes adopting a 'barbarian' mindset: fiercely determined, unafraid to step out of comfort zones, and committed to making progress. Ultimately, bridging the gap between theory and execution accelerates your growth not just as a business owner but as a problem solver and leader. It's a continuous journey of learning, applying, adjusting, and moving forward with intention and respect—qualities that define successful entrepreneurs in the real world.
