SLOW morning RESET
I just started a new job and I want to write a thought-dump, so that is what is below:
So I’ve been off of work for the past two weeks before I start my new job on Monday. This is going to be a total change in my schedule, my sleep schedule, the type of work I’m doing, and where I’m working.
I went from a designer job meeting with new clients every single day and driving to their houses for face-to-face sales, to moving into the sales and marketing side of interior design. Instead of a few hours for an appointment, I will be sitting at my own personal desk in my own personal office, coming up with strategies and events.
I decided to take this time to spend as much time as I could outside to really reset and figure out what my goals are and what I want my life to look like when I step into this new role.
My first thought was changing my diet. I normally eat pretty clean, but my problem is I don’t have any structure to my eating. Now I’m going to have a breakfast time, a lunch break, and then home for dinner, so my meals will already have structure. I want to be able to meal prep and practice the kind of breakfast that I like.
I’ve also decided to wake up an hour before I need to start getting ready for work. This will give me time outside, listening to nature, reading my Bible, praying to God, and starting my day in a way that honors Him and sets me up for success. If I am focused on God and trying to bring my heart posture into alignment with His will, then I can only be prosperous because I will be going towards Him.
Next is my fitness. I really want to go on walks in the mornings, even if it’s only for half an hour. I think that’s a good amount of time to get my body moving, get my heart rate up, and allow myself to process through my thoughts, maybe anxiety or stresses that I’m dealing with. After work, I’m planning on going to the gym, so I’ll be bringing a gym bag with my change of workout outfit and shoes. I really want to make it systematic, so I’m going to have my gym bag packed and ready to go.
Using a notebook is something I have always done, but I want to make sure that even though I’m working in a job that focuses on creativity, I also take the time to be creative on my own time — not just for my job, but to freely express what’s going on in my mind, or something that I’m working on, or an idea that I have. Just to be creative because that’s a part of me.
I’m also planning on keeping a check-in notebook. For the first couple of weeks I think I will write at the end of each workday. I’ll reflect on the things I’ve learned, the conversations I had, the relationships I’m building, and write the good and the bad — any questions that I have for the following day. That way I can see myself as I progress, and if I ever go back through the pages, maybe I’ll see things I wasn’t expecting and relearn things about myself. Then at the end of the week on Fridays, I will do a weekly recap of everything from that week before going into the weekend. I’m planning on prepping and getting ready for the following week so I can stay ahead of things mentally and not get overwhelmed. I don’t want to get caught up in this beautiful and fun new job and then become stressed because I wasn’t planning.

Starting a new job can be both exciting and overwhelming, which is why establishing a well-rounded morning reset routine can make all the difference. Beyond just waking up earlier, creating rituals that balance body, mind, and spirit sets a positive tone for the entire day. One powerful way to enhance your morning is by incorporating a green juice filled with vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. Drinking a nutrient-dense green juice can boost energy levels and support detoxification, giving you a refreshing start. Pairing this with a quiet time for reflection, such as reading scripture or meditative prayer, helps align your heart posture with faith, grounding you in patience and clarity as you navigate new challenges. Taking a neighborhood walk without your phone encourages mindfulness. Observing nature—the colors of flowers, the songs of birds, the sunlight filtering through leaves—calms the mind and invigorates your senses. This small but intentional step not only gets your heart rate up but also provides mental space to process thoughts or anxieties calmly. Fitness is a crucial component that complements mental and spiritual focus. Even a short 30-minute morning walk primes your body for the day ahead. Planning gym workouts after work with a packed gym bag ensures consistency and removes barriers to maintaining physical health. Creativity nurtures the soul and keeps professional work fresh and joyful. Using a notebook to freely express ideas, brainstorm, and reflect can unlock new perspectives and innovations. This creative outlet acts as both a stress reliever and a wellspring of inspiration, especially valuable in careers that thrive on design and marketing. Finally, maintaining a check-in journal is a practical way to track progress and emotional well-being. Writing daily reflections on learnings, conversations, successes, and challenges clarifies goals and nurtures self-awareness. Weekly recaps keep you organized and proactive, reducing overwhelm and enhancing productivity. By thoughtfully integrating these elements—nutrition, faith, fitness, creativity, and reflection—into your morning reset, you not only prepare your workday but also invest in your holistic well-being. This approach transforms transitions like starting a new job into opportunities for growth, resilience, and joy.
