Fav meals as a D1 Athlete!
☆ I was raised on the idea that “less is more” when it comes to carbs and calories. This could not be FURTHER from the truth.
☆ Incorporating protein and veggies into your diet is great. HOWEVER- these should not be the only foods you are eating, especially as an athlete. Far too many people are under the impression that “carbs are evil” and that eating a cookie will ruin any progress they have made in the gym. In reality, carbs play a HUGE role in creating energy! Additionally, fat helps to store energy, and is great for brain function.
☆ Every person is different, which means everyone’s body reacts differently to certain diets. Don’t miss out on life experiences because they may be too “high cal.” It’s okay to eat food simply because it tastes good!!
As a Division 1 athlete, your diet is crucial for both performance and overall health. It's a common misconception that carbs should be avoided. In fact, carbohydrates are vital for generating the energy needed during training and competition. Athletes require a well-rounded diet that includes a mix of macronutrients: proteins for muscle repair, carbs for energy, and fats for long-term fuel and brain function. Some favorite meals among D1 athletes often include nutrient-rich options such as grilled pork chops served with green beans, which provide both protein and essential vitamins. Yogurt mixed with granola and chia seeds makes for a great breakfast or snack, adding fiber and healthy fats to your diet. Don't forget the classic snacks like iced coffee with a hint of honey for a quick burst of energy before workouts. Balancing caloric intake while enjoying flavors is key; athletes should not deprive themselves. Enjoy meals like ramen noodles tossed with healthy proteins or salads enriched with fresh ingredients. Remember to listen to your body and indulge occasionally, recognizing that food should not only fuel performance but also bring joy. Overall, embrace a diverse diet that enhances your athletic performance while satisfying your palate!
