He Used To Call Me His Trophy Wife.
My ex used to introduce me as his trophy wife. I used to smile. Now I understand what that really meant.
When I was younger, I thought it was something to be proud of. It sounded glamorous. Polished. Desired.
But over time, I realized something.
A trophy is usually placed on a shelf. Displayed. Owned. Admired from a distance.
And I was never meant to sit on a shelf.
What he saw as a trophy was actually discipline.
What he saw as beauty was devotion.
What he saw as status was standards.
I have always taken care of myself. Not for applause. Not for validation. Not for a title.
For me.
I move my body because strength is sacred.
I eat clean because my brain matters. I protect my nervous system because clarity is power.
I invest in skincare, in fitness, in learning, in growth because I respect the vessel I live in.
This is not a phase. It is a lifestyle I have practiced since my twenties. Facials. Microneedling appointments. Investing in good skincare. Walks. Workouts. Chiropractic care. Continuing education. Discipline in the details.
There were seasons where I lost myself a little. Especially during the first two years after my divorce. I drank more than I should have. I coped imperfectly.
But even then, the foundation was still there.
Today, I pour into three things above all else.
My health and fitness.
My relationship with myself and my spirituality.
My personal growth and education.
Family will always matter to me. But this season is about alignment.
When you build rituals around your values, your life reorganizes itself.
You start attracting people who meet you intellectually. Energetically. Professionally. Spiritually.
You stop trying to fit into rooms that were never built for you.
So yes. Treat yourself like a trophy.
Earned. Protected. Self built.
Not a prize someone claims.
Not the kind that decorates a man’s ego.
Not the kind that’s owned.
A standard someone rises to.
A woman who defines her own value.
The kind that owns herself.
Reflecting on the label 'trophy wife,' I initially saw it as a compliment—a mark of beauty and desirability. However, I soon realized that this label often reduces a complex individual to a mere object of admiration, displayed but not truly seen or valued for intrinsic qualities. From my personal experience, reclaiming this narrative meant shifting focus inward—to strength, health, and continuous growth. Building a lifestyle around discipline isn’t about seeking external validation but about honoring oneself. For instance, integrating holistic practices such as microneedling for skincare, regular workouts, and chiropractic care significantly improved not just my physical appearance but my mental clarity and confidence. These rituals became acts of self-love rather than attempts to please others. Moreover, nourishing the brain with clean eating and investing time in ongoing education cultivated a sense of empowerment. It’s in this alignment that I found the courage to step away from relationships and environments that no longer served my growth. Spirituality also played a crucial role, helping me reconnect with my true values and attract meaningful connections that resonated on intellectual and energetic levels. During challenging phases, such as the period after my divorce, I faced setbacks, but my commitment to foundational routines provided stability. The key was recognizing that personal value isn’t conferred by others but is self-defined and self-owned. Treating oneself as a trophy means embodying standards that inspire respect rather than being a prize to be claimed. Ultimately, transforming the perception from being someone's 'trophy' to becoming a woman who owns her worth is liberating. It invites us all to reflect on the importance of self-care, personal boundaries, and the pursuit of a life aligned with our deepest values and aspirations.
